: Mullet bait help
: Eric H December 12, 2018, 07:25:07 AM
Our family beach house has a creek running behind it the leads to the ocean.

Theres always mullet back there and lots of them.

Ive tried peas, cheese, bread, dog food , mussels , lunch meat and a couple other things i cant think of.

Id really like to get one, they are literally 20ft from our back door.

Any help is appreciated.

Eric,
I think I know the creek.  I've seen those big mullet.

Don't get caught fishing there though!

Hit me up when you're in town, I'll show you a spot on the creek where you can fish for them legally.

I've never caught them without snagging them, so, I can only tell you what I've heard from those who have actually caught them with a baited hook. Wetted and balled up white bread, biscuit dough, ghost shrimp, peas, and that green moss looking stuff growing on the rocks that gets exposed at low tide. All on a small hook and flylined. They're awesome fighters on light line! Good luck and keep us posted.

Years ago I heard of the secret bait for mullet, but I've refused to try it.  Apparently small pieces of banana peel on a tiny hook is the ticket.
