Took a walk with my step-daughter the other day for some exercise and some bird watching and we came across an opening in the tree line to see a pair of Red Tailed hawks sitting on a dead tree:

Took a few pictures , then turned to discuss it with her and when I turned around they had vanished! I then saw movement through the trees and thought " OK they are coming back!" Got my camera ready to catch what I thought was one or more of them returning when to MY UTTER AMAZEMENT SAW THIS!!!!!!:

In shock I was backpedaling to keep it in frame in the narrow opening in the trees and shouting to my step-daughter " HOLY !#@$^!$^  IT"S A BALD EAGLE!!!!!!!!!" She was laughing her butt off and calling "bird nerd " in my wake! ;D ;D ;D
Wasn't until I calmed down and reviewed the images on my camera that it had a fresh kill of a common coot in it's talons!!!! BONUS!!!

(hope no ones sensibilities or delicate nature are offended by the eagle doing eagle stuff! :o)

Life and work issues being what they have been for the last year the birding and hiking I have been doing in place of time on the sand hopefully have now relaxed enough to allow me to add some fishing back in to my life again, and lord knows I need to knock the rust off to try and take the mud marlin crown back........
Thanks for looking and hoping to get some line wetting time in during this long weekend!

Tackle Talk / Sputnik sinkers for sale?
« on: January 21, 2018, 08:00:51 PM »
All,
Looking to test the waters on possibly selling Sputniks (locally only for now)
I recently purchased molds for 4,5,6, and 7 ounce sputniks and have been producing a few and refining the process, I have also been experimenting with an integrated "splash down clip", as well as an option for a short and long tailed version and a light and heavier gauge of stainless wire legs and tails. I have a couple of guinea pigs already to test out the splash down design, so after feedback I will decide whether to implement this feature on a regular or special order basis. i also have molds to produce 2,3,4,5 ounce egg sinkers. Just trying to see if there is a market, and if so may scale up to meet wider needs.
Prices will be:
$2.50 ea for 4 & 5 ounce
$3.00 ea for 6 7 7 ounce
.25 cents extra for splashdown clip if implemented
Let me know what you all think?

Also have my own logo molded in (JAWS! lmao!)

Did a solo trip to the bat spot last night after hearing about the killer night that the Tuesday night crew had...
Long story short, crappy bait, stuck in traffic for an hour and left my 4oz rigging at the house, so couldn't load up my rods with the light weight bait, thus equaling I couldn't hit the sweet spot in the water, so caught three between 14" and 26ish"

Nice night after the wind died but called it early after all the ids in from out of town for some country event rolled in to blare country music over the island....my ears are still bleeding...  :o :o :o

one pic but too ashamed to post! ::) on my gear I almost water skied it back to shore! >:(

Thought about keeping it for shark bait...

Might hit it again tonight or might just wait til Sunday night when the kids head back to whatever honky tonk spawned them.... ;D

Finally had the full crew on the sand for the first time in what seems like forever!!

Met Dakota and Jimmy at the soup kitchen for a team search for the grinners great to be on the sand again with the full " SC Critter Hunters" once again!

We were met with tiny surf , no weeds and a killer sunset!

Settled in with some tasty bait kindly supplied by Dakota for what we hoped was an epic soak...
Had a few bites and a couple of short pickups that kept us hoping for some real action, we were stunned after reading the recent reports of the salad fest that we were salad free......well about 8pm the salad rolled in in full force! We were having to reel in and clear the mess every ten minutes or so! We were all hoping it was just a passing thing and sure enough about 45 minutes later we were once again salad free ;D

9pm rolls around and I see my rod take a small bounce so I hop over but dismiss it as some leftover salad, I,m about to walk away when I notice a second bump so I draw the rod out and take up some slack and when I feel the third hard tap I set the hook and IT'S ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I could tell right away that this was the right kind and it was not happy about getting bit back by the hook! 8)  Even with the drag on my 50 Saltist almost buttoned down she was screaming towards Hawaii  :o epic battle and finally slowed her down and had her headed toward the skinny got her within 20 yards of the sand and shes in 3' of water and we see right away that its a monster soupie and shes pissed!!!!!!
Have her coaxing into the last little bit when she does a headstand in the water and we see at least three or four feet of shark thrashing out of the water with the other three nosed into the sand the guys are ready to wade in and go for the grab when the unthinkable happens......she spits my 12/0 circle hook!!!!!!

!%#%@^@&@   :'( :'( :'( :'( :-[ :-[ :-[ >:( >:( >:(

Cant do anything but watch as the tip of what felt like my PB head back into the waiting arms of the Pacific :'( :'( :'(

While I'm cursing my rush to bring her in I notice I get my rig back sans sputnik! :o
Oh well we will duel again someday!

While I am re-tying my rig (something I do after every fish) I notice a couple of "fuzzy" spots on my braid about 4' and 6' above the hook

Vindication as to whether re-tying after every grinner or bat was truly warranted ;D

well the evening continued with not much more than teaser bites and chomped baits til about 10:30 when my rod bounces again and the adrenaline kicks in and I'm thinking possible retribution, set the hook and feel nothing but mush so I yell to the crew who are madly trying to clear lines that its weeds, when all of a sudden the "weeds"starts the drag to screaming! ;D Full bendo!!
Doesn't take me long to realize "big fish" but with no shakes and no tail thumps I soon realize bat! Dang but this one was a mack truck!!! I'll tell you shallow beachand small waves plus mondo bat makes for a tough landing! It took me walking backwards halfway to the mountains and Jimmy and Dakota both to drag this behemoth out of the surf!!! 54" and absolutely the fattest bat I have ever pulled on! 8) 8) 8) :o :o :o

She was so fat when I rolled her over to pull the hook this pic shows how high she was in the back!

And here's the glory shot

After sending her back to the surf we stuck it out til 11:30 with no more love.

But tonight is for payback! LOL

Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / SNBF warmup
« on: March 01, 2015, 12:34:35 PM »
Got a text from Pinoyfisher yesterday wanting to know if I was up for some batting before the storm hit......WHY NOT!!!

Got to the stomping grounds about an hour before sunset and 10 minutes before jwells, had one line out and sent another to join it as Jimmy was setting up, well 10 minutes later second rod in goes bendo and after a quick battle I slid this little 24" on the sand! Maybe a good start to the night?

Carlsbadman and his family came down to join the fun, I rebaited and sent it back out and not five minutes later the other rod goes bendo!!! Better fight and she couldn't decide which way to go! 15 minutes later and the first ones big sister slides up with a nice assist from Jimmy!  431/2"

Great fight! Not much going on after that, poor Mike was stuck at home taking care of the family and chomping at the bit trying to get out, about 8 we had a shower roll in so out came the rain gear....three nuts in rain gear huddled around a fire watching the lights from our rods and hoping for a strike! ::)

It went from a gentle sprinkle to an all out down pour and we all looked at each other trying to figure who was going to make the call :'(

I called Mike to see if he had an ETA, while I was talking to him Jimmy's rod go's full bendo! Sorry mike call you back in a minute!!! LOL

After a nice fight I helped Jimmy slide this 43 1/2" girl on the sand! (sorry about my crappy cell pic!)

After ten minutes trying not to drown we called it. I called Mike and he was on the island so I decided to stick and keep him company for the precious time he had left, unfortunately he wound up pulling a stripe, but we at least we were entertained by some moron teens playing with gasoline and the campfire down the way, it was all fun and games til the inevitable conclusion when the gas can caught fire and they tried to put it out by kicking it around the beach......yeah that works! :o

Good night with great peeps.
