Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / 7/5/23 Sharkin
« on: July 07, 2023, 04:44:49 AM »
Went back to the spot with high hopes. Took my cousin Mike (Hippie Long Beard) to see if I couldn't get him on a shark , for the first time in nearly a decade. 1st cast with the light rod I get a drag ripper.

Then I made the the right kind of baits

As I'm cutting up the perch for my cousin I see Luke bendo on a a screamer.

https://i.imgur.com/UgXMUwJ.jpeg

Get my cousin situated and start rigging my shark rod up. Didn't take long for him to get bit. Wasn't fighting as hard as a soupfin would but definitely a shark. After a few mins he slides the 1st Leo of the sesh into the skinny and I tail his 1st shark in forever B)

Because Science🤪

Then It went quiet on the big rods, aside from a few missed short runs/bites, til well after dark.  But the light rod fishing was WFO all sesh. It was kinda ridiculous, you got bit within 30secs of your crabs hitting the water nearly every cast.

Around 930 Greg gets bit and he's on, again not a soup , but a better sized Leo slides up the sand as the tides rushing in.

Send her back, check and change baits. Lil after 10, my cousin gets freight trained. He hadn't hooked something this powerful from the surf in long time. After a few minutes of back and forth I see a 45+in Bat in the wash, as he's trying to get it turned around in the skinny, the hook pulls :/

Get another bait out and light up an offering to The Fish Gods. As we're shooting the $#!+ Passing the offering around, I see my rod bounce and run over to see my line slack. I crank for my life but can't catch up, so the classic reel and running hook set is brought out of the archives and that was the trick, suddenly I'm on and it's ripping line off my reel! Yuuuuuup that's the right kine, she goes airborne in misty darkness. I almost handed it off to my cousin, but I'm tied with Andre so I needed this to break that tie 😋
We go back and forth, under my cousin's line and back towards my rod holder after a solid fight, Greg and Luke tag team tail grab this healthy Thiiiiick soupie:)

I was stoked to get another one for the list, that's 19 for the list, my 20th all time.

Change baits, get reset and I look at my phone to check the pics. It's almost 11pm now and I gotta get up at 5 to workout b4 work at 7, so I told my cousin I'd let him have the next fish on my rod if it got bit again b4 we had to leave at midnight.

20mins later Greg gets bit, but turned out to be a Guitar that wanted some perch.

https://i.imgur.com/rhNfH7Z.jpeg

Luke was next up but it was just another shovelnose.

https://i.imgur.com/EPaoTaX.jpeg

Unfortunately that's all the action we saw. Greg and Luke stayed til 2am said the grunion started running lil b4 midnight and Greg landed a soup just b4 1am.

Mike (Pinoyfisher) went out last night, hope you got more than just that Leo bro 🤙🏽

Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / Tuesday Night Soup Fest 6/6/23
« on: June 07, 2023, 06:25:23 PM »
Gonna try to keep this short and to the point. I'm Running on literal fumes right now.

Met up with Greg, lil before 6, at the scene of the slayage from Sunday. Beach was absolutely littered with kelp and every type of seagrass I've ever seen 🙃 for as far as the eye could see north and south.. welp we're here and we know they're around. Not gonna be a cake walk like Sunday lol

He catches a perch pretty quick in-between clumps of salad. I keep getting my crabs smashed but no takers. He catches another mid size perch and we're stoked to have a few fresh baits and one frozen whole perch from Sunday. As I'm reeling in to go grab a piece of Greg's perch I hook one of my own and it's a solid 3 baiter. We get em in the cooler and start deciding w ho is going to get
What piece , he goes head I take a body chunk and we get baits sent out.

Baits in, it's 645ish magic hour is approaching, weeds are pretty much only inside the skinny and shore pound. Seems promising. I look and my lines slack on the beach. It's only been in the water for maybe 2-3mins tops. Reel in expecting weeds to be the culprit but turns out my baits completely smashed/shredded and Uber fresh perch doesn't just fall off a hook and shred itself😵‍💫

Send another bait out and maybe 25mins later, Greg's on! Well that's a good sign lol he put the wood to her and battled her through the waves pretty quick so we thought Leo for sure, until she went on another screamer back to the outside break. They went back and forth for a bit, and drew some onlookers, who were only expecting a fire sunset and instead got treated to a soup fight 🤪

I checked my bait, he Rebaited, sent em again.
Greg grabs his perch rod and fishes for bait for a few mins. As he's soaking crabs I look over and my rods loaded up and doin the grinner shake, run to it and it goes slack, reel for my life to catch up but it dropped the perch chunk, recast and see that Greg's hooked up on the perch rod with something that's not a perch . It managed to get kelp all over itself and in the skinny all I saw was silver and kelp so I figured it was a smallish bean but turned out to be a healthy YFC! We chunked her up and Greg sent the head out.
It's been about 30mins since we sent baits out, it's dark now and we're just waiting for the bite to really turn up.

I switched out the perch for a chunk of YFC, Greg recasts and as I'm watching him walk back to his rod holder I see my rod double over and the and  herky jerky shark shake. I grab it and it's instant slack 😭 I reel and there's no weight at all. Bit off/ rolled through the 80lb mono shock leader.

I only have like 8ft of Mono left, so now I get to tie an FG knot on the beach 🙃

Get it tied and go to recast, I look over and Greg's hooked up. Set my rod down and go help him get her landed. Yep another Soup. She was fired up and put up a great fight.

Solid Tope

https://i.imgur.com/ij851rX.jpeg

He's stoked! I'm losing my mind going 0/3 and breaking off the last one with ever feeling the line go tight.

But I send a chunk of perch out anyway and fire up an offering to the shark gods.

We both know it's about to go off and are keeping a close watch on our rods. Well the offering did the trick, as we're shooting the sh!t about all the fish over the last 2 seshs my rod goes full bendo. Get to it and it's still going, set and I'm OOOONNN! Suddenly those lost opportunities don't sting nearly as bad 😅 she goes airborne a few times in the ambient light from the over cast and full moon glow. Get her into the skinny after a solid battle and as I see the dorsal fin swimming towards Greg I can see she's a good one. Greg tails her and I'm redeemed 🙌🏽

https://i.imgur.com/FElrAz6.jpeg

Well we knew it was gonna be a good night and 3 soups is great by anybody's standards. But we weren't going anywhere til the grunion showed up.

Sure enough as I'm getting my rod back in to the holder after I sent another chunk of perch out, Greg's bit AGAIN ! I'd say I can't believe it but it was becoming the norm at this point. After 3 soups we didn't expect anything else lol and sure as sh!t that's what he pulled in through the breakers. Another solid healthy female soup.

https://i.imgur.com/XyAKwPh.jpeg

We got her sent back and he recasts as I check my bait and resend it. It's like almost 11pm now tides peaked grunion are running and we're in tope heaven.

I'm next up with a screamer bite that I lay into and it's ON! I'm in the zone fighting this fish and just in awe of how much action there's been , get her into the skinny and she's wrapped up in the mono so Greg's got a lil easier task landing a lassoed shark 😅

This might be the picture I want at my funeral

https://i.imgur.com/JeYxLgl.jpeg

Of course we're not going to leave when they're there's this many fish in the area. We say we're gonna try to leave by 1230 to avoid getting a parking ticket and Greg's got work at 8am lol luckily I'm off Wednesdays, but we didn't get another bite til just b4 midnight. I was up again blistering 1st run, yep that's her bro, she gave it all she had but I slid her up with the shore break and we got her tailed in the middle of the grunion doing their thing 🤪

My 3rd soup of the sesh, 6th total for the night, 9th we've seen this week🫠

https://i.imgur.com/Y4QezEv.jpeg

Fished another hour for another short bite each. Get to the trucks and Greg lost his keys on the sand. Look for em for 30mins, no luck, drive Greg home to mission valley, to get his spare, it's 230am now, drive him back to the beach and get home lil b4 4 after I stopped for gas 💀😴💩 welp I failed to keep it short LMAO

Guess who's back B) well it's been awhile since I had anything to post from the surf.. fished Sat night with Mike for a few hours , he had to bail b4 11 to pick up the kids and the action was slow to say the least. Got some reliable second hand info on another spot. Went back out Sunday evening with my buddies Greg and Luke. Met Luke on the sand at 535, Greg showered up shortly after. Made a few perch for bait on meatballs of jelly bean soft shell sand crabs. 3rd bite on the perch rod is an absolute screamer, literally dumping line off my mini 500 size reel with all 7lbs of drag cranked, 130yds flew off and I cupped the spool for dear life b4 having no option but to break off b4 losing all my 15lb braid. 99% sure I hooked a mid 40s batray or the mother of all SFC. Something has 6ft of 12lb floro and a dropper looped drop shot hook souvenir.

Luke and Greg each caught a perch so we started soaking chunks of Uber fresh money baits around 730. Within half an hour Greg's rod loads up and he's on, few mins later I tail a solid Leo for him

https://imgur.com/a/RB87nL2

Send her back and within 20mins of recasting, Luke's on. Solid run and then she stormed the beach and we thought he lost her, until he caught back up to it in the skinny. Few mins later I tail another solid Leo.

https://i.imgur.com/4zyCVrl.jpeg

Send her back and 10mins later Greg's on again, after a good fight and nice runs, through the shore pound slides yet another chunky Leo.

https://i.imgur.com/A2r6F9Q.jpeg

I'm bracketed in and starting to think about moving north of Greg since he's got the hot stick so far. But literally 5mins later, after I lit up an offering to the shark gods, I'm looking at my rod tip light, and I see that tell tale smack and my line starts peeling off slowly, then the drag starts screaming! I Grab the rod and lay into her, solid connection, head shakes, tail slap, that's her boys! She was pissed, I could barely see through the mist, and it was completely dark by now but I could see commotion out past the break, and feel the line up in the water column. Then she jumped and I knew it was the right kine B) yep she's a real one, Greg and Luke were ready after a 6-7 min battle up past Greg's rod, I get her through the shore break and she starts rolling up the leader, but that actually helped get her through the skinny as she couldn't get her tail free to get back through the wash. Greg gets a shot at a tail grab and she's landed!!! Luke's never caught or seen a soup in person so he was stoked to finally see one in the flesh.

Been 2yrs but damn it never gets old

Business end ;D

https://i.imgur.com/kbIooua.jpeg

Everyone rebaited and send fresh chunks into the dark misty night. Didn't take long after we all got settled, and my adrenaline rush started to subside, we see Luke's rod in the distance doin the grinner dance, he runs to it and gets to but the fish had screamed at least 85 yds off and wasn't slowing down. He buttons down the drag a bit and she's still screaming line off his daiwa. She finally slows and he turns her after a solid 250yd run, but proceeds to storm the beach after a lil side to side run into my line x) I clear the tangle and he's back pulling her through the skinny, she gets rolled up in the leader in the shore pound and I get her wrangled. None of us can believe how many fish are already on the sand at this point. And we've only been soaking for like 90mins 8/

Solid 70" female

https://imgur.com/a/BvTgEKW

Well amidst the chaos of damn near back to back fish I had to recast from clearing my line outta Luke's fish. Greg looks at his rig and his lines slack, he reels forever to try and get tension and reels in a smashed perch head. Could a been another fish if we weren't busy with one already.

We all recast and start sending pics of all the fish to each other, within 20mins Luke's on again with another absolute tank! Not nearly as much of an initial run but she was screaming line and thrashing near the surface for part of the fight. After a solid fight He manages to keep her outta the other lines and gets her into the skinny . Surf had died down for a bit, and she just washed into the flooded flat beach as the tide was almost peaked, and you could see the definite dorsal fin size difference and she was a thick one. As her belly hit soft sand in inches of water I dragged her up the beach a bit out of the waves.

~69"

https://imgur.com/a/BvTgEKW

Well i knew none of us was leaving anytime soon, so we all rebaited or recasted and just waited to see who was gonna be next to get bit ;P Turned out to be Greg's turn. After 3 soups in a row we were all kinda disappointed it was Greg's 3rd phatty leopard of the night:/ crazy how easy it is to tell the fights apart when you've gotten so many in, in one night.

https://imgur.com/a/BvTgEKW

Turned her loose and sent another offering into the air for the shark gods. Seemed greedy at this point, but I was still sitting at one fish on the board lol

Well it took a lil longer than the previous 7 fish but I got another run and set into something not as big or strong as my last bite. Drag was a lil buttoned down from the soup fight, but I made short work of a solid 48in Leo.

https://i.imgur.com/sx2axii.jpeg

We fished another hour or so with only one farmed screamer that Luke never got a hook into. Dude was on fire , coulda likely had a 3 soup night if the last bite woulda stuck. That was around 1015 so we stayed til 11 cause none of us wanted to go home lol I'm definitely gonna be back later this week to see if I can find another one while the grunion are running.

Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / Couple BIG Rays
« on: June 14, 2021, 12:03:00 PM »
Hit the surf two weeks ago to see if the soups were still around. Apparently they only feed durring full moons and grunion runs :/

Beat the skunk with a Legit Surf Bat B)
Put up a good fight. Nick was shocked I landed it in under 10mins. Told him when you know its a bat and dont care if you lose it, just tighten the drag and put the wood to em B)

Nothin else after that..

Hadn't been to the Lil Bay in I honestly dont know how long. Was hot in the valley last week so we went to have lunch and burn some trees down at the bay. Fiesta has been dead for too long for it to be a reliable spot anymore.. Decided to try a spot I've seen some big bats caught at. Parkin was good so we posted up for a lil bit and I soaked some calamari i had in the freezer for who knows how long. Old mackerel for back up. But I wasn't really that serious about the sesh just chillin with TinkerBell waitin for her to get hungry.

About 2hrs in we're pretty much gettin pushed off the sand by the tide, and we're deciding where to go eat when my rod bounces then starts screaming. Oh s#!t that's the right bite lol I get to it, set the hook and its ON! BIGGIN Babe! Drag is screamin she's already took 90yds in 30secs. Ok more drag! That didnt slow her down. Crank it down more. Still not doin $#!T! I've never hooked anything on this reel before! (Fin Nor 8000 Bait Runner) Aight we're losing way too much line too fast ! I crank down the drag to probably 85% and she finally slows down a bit and starts to go dead weight. Its probably been 3mins since I set the hook and she decides shes over it and slowly starts the turn back. Stickin to the bottom for 15secs every 20yds or so. After a few mins of that I see a boil 15yds out but no wing flap. I was pretty confused, I thought for sure I had a solid 50"+ bat. I gained a few more feet of line, and she decides to make a U turn. She damn near yanked the rod outta my hands my drag was so tight. As she tries to get turned around she throws her massive tail outta the water and I see a GIANT barb thrashing through the air.  :o Holy $#!T thats not a bat! Things just got serious real quick. I loosen my drag a lil and tell my girl to get ready cuz its about to get sketchy as hell in a sec. I get the fish turned back towards shore and ease her into the shallows tryin not to get her worked up. Shes super green and I know I'm gonna need both hands to drag her outta the agua. As soon as she bottoms out she starts flappin and thrashing her tail like crazy. I hand my rod off, and grab her gaping ear holes for dear life. Tryin to avoid a steak knife sized barb flyin from the back, in the process. I manage to get her just far enough outta the muck, to get some epic pics and let the 27 joggers and dog walkers who gathered durring the mele get a look.

Glory shot

Perspective shot

I know for a fact she was HEAVIER than any bat I've EVER caught or sand handed. Definitely was sketchier to handle lol

Not too bad for a couple shark-less seshs..

Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / Return Of Rasta 5/27 & 5/28/21
« on: May 29, 2021, 01:57:54 PM »
Guess who's back :D

Been fishin ABA Green bass team tourneys, with a buddy, since January. Finally got a chance to hit the big water again after a solid 1st season. Managed a top 5 finish and 3 top tens, 7th, 6th, and 5th, outta 6 events.

https://i.imgur.com/HRgLEMd.jpg

Got a call from my buddy Nick to get after some grinners. Its been over 2yrs since I've felt a shark pull on the big rod. Hit the beach at 5pm to make bait. Managed a small perch and an 8in YFC. Not bad lol, waited the swimmers and surfers out and had baits in by 645. Nothin for the 1st hour. Then the magic hour was upon us. As the Sun starts to dip into the marine layer haze I chopped the croakers head off at 725 and sent it out past the breakers. I Lit up an offerin, and as Nick and I were shootin the $#!+, I look over and see the Rasta-far Rod doin the grinner dance. Sprint to it and get the hook burried and see the most epic tail walk/dolphin breach I've ever seen. This was my 1st time hooking a soup before darkness set in. She was PI$$ED!!! She made another half hearted leap outside the breakers and then the zig zaggin and tail beatin began. I drew a bit of a crowd durring the fight, so the pressure was definitely on as we went back and fourth. After a solid 5mins, that felt like forever lol she was within tailing range and with the help of one last lil shore breaker she was on hard pack firmly in nicks grasp. I of course let out a WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, that had been pent up for over 25months, that would have put 1983 ric flair to shame!!!

Stoked is an absolute understatement!

https://i.imgur.com/CVC5LRT.jpg

https://i.imgur.com/EVRATyx.jpg

Snapped some pics and let a few audience members check her out super quick and sent her home.

I had forgot my head lamp in the truck, so I wasnt planning on stayin late, but since Nick invited me out, I said I'd stay til he got bit atleast. Didnt take long lol he was bent b4 dark and landed his PB soup at 73" and some change. On some perch chunks.

Professional Photographer Grade Photo

https://i.imgur.com/jfo3mOl.jpg

Well we couldn't leave em biting LMAO
So we both sent baits back out. And within 10mins nicks on again, he gets the hook set and the fish makes a couple hard runs before the hook pulls. Gets his rig in and the bait has no marks, still sittin on his circle hook like he sent it out. So he recasts and we said 20 more mins and we'll call it, before the mega high tide pushed us off the sand. Didnt get to 15mins when his rod goes off again with an absolute screamer. I kinda knew within the 1st 30secs it was a bat lol this thing was on a mission to spool his lil 8000 Penn battle 3! It took 300yds of 50lb braid like nothin and I knew he needed to tighten his drag way down or he was done. After another 80 plus yards flew off I Couldn't help but half yell at him button that $#!+ down bro she's gonna take all your line soon! He just bought the reel and didnt know the limitations on it yet but i couldn't just watch him get spooled! Bro you got like 40yds left she's either takin all the line, or you lock that drag down and at least try and stop her. Worst that'll happen line snaps or you pull the hook, she aint gonna stop with what you're doin now! He was super nervous but finally obliged and he managed to turn her with maybe 30yds left on the spool but he swears he had over 50 x) idk how close he was but I could see alot of space on that spool. She's wore out after that ridiculous run, and they stalemate for a bit, before he starts to gain his line back a few yards at a time. Im textin Mike the whole time lol hes already ready to fish Friday night ;) 15 mins go by and she's gettin close. And almost 20mins after the bite she's in the skinny. Holy $#!+ bro she's HUGE!!! I have caught some BIG bats outta the surf and sand handed my share of ABSOLUTE UNITS, but this was by far the THICKEST AND HEAVIEST MUD MARLIN I've ever laid hands on!!!

58" MONSTROSITY

https://i.imgur.com/4PnjWpB.jpg

Pics Do ZERO justice to the size of this bat. And she wouldnt sit still for $#!+

https://i.imgur.com/4bBUSoD.jpg

We were both done after that and the tide had already soaked all of Nicks gear so we made the hike out and called it. Helluva way to get welcomed back to the surf ;D

Well they say strike while the iron is hot.. So I headed back down yesterday same time, place, and mission. Catch bait while I waited for Mike and Andre (lightline22) to show up, and the water enthusiasts to get outta the way :/

Took a lil bit, but I Caught a couple pieces of bait before mike showed up. And the crowd thinned out enough to get a bait in the water by 645. Surf was pumpin a lil more than Thurs but it was fishable. The grass was gettin annoying but I wasn't gonna be discouraged lol. One of Nicks good buddies Greg shows up, we've talked on IG but this was my 1st time fishin with him. Then Andre shows up after his trek down from LA .

So its a full on mini gathering lol Mike and I are book ended with Andre nortg of mike and Greg south of me. He forgot his rod holder at home, and couldnt make any bait so, I offered him some old Mack and generously gave him the tail section of a perch I caught on Thurs :D This would prove to be crucial in the way the rest of the night unfolded.

Magic hour comes and goes. We've all soaked a couple baits. It's about 830 and im kinda wonderin if it was past prime time since we put 2 on the sand before dark the night before. Greg chucks out the perch tail i gave him and says hes probably done within the hour. Not 5 mins later Andre hooks up and as I'm walkin down to check him out Greg says hes bit too! Son of a bi@+©#!!! Mikes watchin his rod and helpin Dre while i crank my rig in and help Greg out. His lil Daiwa Saltist 5000 is gettin worked !!! 50lb braid singing off like it was trout gear! I questioned his drag tightness after 200yds went towards Catalina and told him bout nicks beast the night before almost spoolin him on a bigger reel. Mike came over after gettin Dres fish dealt with and said the same thing as Greg's fish headed towards mikes line. He cranked down and managed to turn her before it became a complete clusterfμ©× . after about 12 mins she was in the skinny and mike and I dragged her to hard pack .

Dres Bat

https://i.imgur.com/icsw3D4.jpg

Greg's Bat

https://i.imgur.com/awqFWl6.jpg

Not what we came for but part of the game lol we all rebaited and said we'd fish til 10 since the high was at 11 and we got pushed out bout 45mins before the peak the night before. Probably 30mins later, Andre hooked up with another bat about the same size. but Mike didnt wanna take another pic apparently ;P

So at 940ish I chopped the head off the YFC I caught that day and sent it out into the darkness. I was talkin to Greg while he held his rod, rememeber he forgot his rod holder lol he was worried about his tackle, sittin on his towel few yards behind us, gettin wet with the tide comin up quickly, so I dragged it up the sand for him outta harms way.. Literally as I stood back up he says I think you're gettin bit. I look and my rod starts that grinner rip rip rip ZIIIIIIIIING !!! Sprint 10yds and get the reel engaged and ITS ON!!! THATS HER!!! Tell tale hurky, jerky, thrashing, line coming off sporadically, i hear a splash from what felt like a jump. It's a shark for sure!!! She was Pullin me north right towards mikes line. Luckily she just swam over it and Greg helped me navigate the obstacle with no problem. She was already pretty close but wouldnt give up. when she hit the skinny she bolted back through the inside break a few times before the shore pound wore her out enough for Greg to get a tail grab and we dragged her out enough to get her unhooked and a couple pics.

Gotta love a buzzer beater B)
We all packed up, as the tide was just about to start makin its way up to our gear.

Needless to say I've had that $#!+eatin grin on since sunset on Thurs, and my face kinda hurts xD but I'll be back out there tryin to keep the streak goin tonight. From No sharks for 25months, to 2 in 2 nights, NEVER GIVE UP!!!

Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / 4/20/19 Soupfin Slayage
« on: April 21, 2019, 07:28:20 PM »
After such a killer sesh on Friday i had to, as some old dude on here likes to say, strike while the iron was Hot! After chuckin some axes down in PB for my buddy's b-day, I headed to meet Steven at the RSK :P few mins before I was about to leave PB he sends me this!

Soup on the sand!

So I'm flying up the 5. Get parked and geared up. As im walking to the spot and Steven and I exchange hellos he gets bit! Nice initial run, he gets it turned and fights it for a few mins in the wash. From the size of the fins, it looked like a nice leopard. Until its at my feet and I reach down to a spotless fat lil 50" soup. We cut her loose real quick as she was leakin pretty good from being hooked in the roof of the mouth. But I can attest that he caught it. So hes got 2 soups on the sand and i havent even got a bait in yet! So I hurry up and tie a fresh rig on! I Cut off a chunk of the Bonita my buddy Jason was ever so gracious to let me take the rest of! Man good friends are so hard to come by ;) Launch it out past the tiny breakers and light up an offering, it is 4/20 anyway :D we dont even get 3/4 of the way thru the spliff when I see my rod start to go bendo, and the baitrunner starts screaming! Hell to the yeah I'm ON! Instant jump upon hook set! God I love this $#!t!!! She tail walks 3 times 60yds out, man that never gets old! Nerve racking, adrenaline pumping, heart thumping, pure, primal, JOY! This thing was piiiiiiiiissed! Made 3 hard runs, Steven tried to video me fighting it but I told him how superstitious I am about anything being filmed or photo'd before it's landed. After what seemed like 10mins but was probably 4 tops lol I finally managed to time the shore pound jus right and beached the beast and Steven grabbed the biggest male soup I've ever seen!

71" male Soupie

Sent him back, after the pics, so he could get back to his harem of soupettes. Let my adrenaline go down a lil and chopped of another chunk of the magical Bonita. Chucked it out and set the rod in the holder. Well I was stoked, ive never caught a shark two nights in a row! Bout 25mins later Steven was dealin with some kelp that got sucked off the beach south of us and pushed up into the wash. I was giving him a hand and as soon as we got it free, I glanced over at my rod and noticed it jump a lil and ran over to check it out. Just as I got to it it bounced hard and went a lil slack, then went full bendo! I wasn't totally surprised lol but i was still kinda in disbelief. I set into it and it was on and jumpin in the hazy moon lit surf! We did the dance back and forth south then north and after a tense battle in tge turbulent skinny water we got a glance of a beautiful FAT MAMA Soupie! Holy $#!t shes thiiiiiiiiccck brah! She's workin her way under stevens line and we maneuver her around it and use the wash to beach her, shes Rollin and thrashing in my leader when all of a sudden it snaps! NOOOOO! SHES OFF STEVEN! He grabs the leader and I grab her tail for the tag team save! WOOOOOOW that was close bro! Thank you soooooooo much! The hook litterally fell out once she hit hard pack!

Beautiful 74" PHAT MAMA

So I was pretty much done since it was almost time for Steven's wifey to pick him up. But i had one last chunk of Bonita and I told him to chuck it out til she got there. He got slammed within 10mins, but it didnt stick. He added a chunk of fresh Mack to it and sent the smorgasborg back out. Well it didnt take long for it to get bit! And he sealed the deal This time! Serious head shakes and tail slap. Biggin! She was jus hunkering down for a bit. Then turned it up and started takin line with brute force. Seven? I think so. Seems lethargic like a seven. Then she decided to go ape$#!t and started acting soupish. Sure enough after a few back and forths in the skinny two dorsal fins emerged and I tailed his 3rd soup of the night!

70" Thick Female Soupie

As we sent her back Steven's wifey was calling him from the lot and we made our exit.

Another Killer night in the books!

Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / 4/19/19 Good Friday Trifecta
« on: April 20, 2019, 05:45:46 AM »
Holy $#!t its been a minute. Wow I'm still pretty amped as I write this! Just had probably the most epic night of sharkin I've ever had! Hit up sk on weds and it was a vegans dream, all the salad you could handle. Decided to give it a day to clear up and started makin plans for Friday night 4/19. Mike was busy so I hit up my buddy Jason and he joined me lil after 9. He went off shore on Thurs and they caught some big Bonita that i told him to bring for bait. 1st couple soaks b4 he showed up I got a ton of eel grass. I was kinda bummed out since my last few surf seshs have been either skunks or super weedy. But I kept at it. Soaked a few Mack chunks and switched to bonita when Jason showed up. 1st cast, 10mins in, with the sushi grade bait and i get a screamer! Holy $#!t bro that was quick. He cleared his line outta the agua and it was on! Definite sharky fight, tell tale herky jerky pulls and tail slaps on the line! After a few hard runs its in the rough shore break and I get a glimpse of it. Soup? Its hard to see with the white wash and foggy misty surf air. This fish is pissed and wont give up, had to time a wave just right to get the tail grab after a quick rod hand off.

Big Fat fired up Female Leo

My buddy's stoked he's only soaked bait with me once b4 and This is the 1st Leo over 2' hes seen in the wild lol

We recast and I can feel it's about to go off real quick so i stay close to the rod. Jason gets bit and reels in a sh!t skate he snagged on his 8/0. As hes unhooking it and tossing it back my rod loads up! Are you serious bro! Yep! She big brah? Yepp! Oh $#!t she jus jumped you see that? Holy phu©k what is that?!?! Sooooooup! No way bro! Yeah buddy! She jumped 4-5 times! So awesome in the full moon light! She ran and pulled like she's done this b4! After she wore herself out a bit I got her close and she ripped back out as I was about to hand the rod off and go for a tail grab. After a few more lil runs she was tired enough to hand the rod off and tail the beast!

69" female soupie

I was beyond stoked I have never caught a Leo and soup in the same night. I was pretty much content with the 2 shark night. I told Jason I wasn't gonna rebait, tide was flipped and started goin out, I said you wanna soak one more b4 we gotta go? He said bro you gotta make one more cast. I jokingly said aight, one more shot for a seven gill! So I chopped off the biggest chunk of Bonita I'd used all night and sent it out to the breakers. 5mins in Jason gets his 1st real bite but it missed the hook. As hes winding his rig in my line goes slack, I thought he had snagged my line but then it goes tight and starts to pull some drag, I grab the rod and feel a steady pull. It's definitely a fish! Holy $#!t I'm on bro! No way dude! Yeah feels like a bat! Then all hell broke loose and this fish storms the beach! Pulling parallel and I run south to catch up but never do.... Wtf?!?!? It's in the wash bout 30yds south of me.  Then goes str8 west and then parallel north. Feels like a bat bro it keeps hunkering down and pulls at will. This goes on for several minutes, it keeps peelin line and flipping around with the shore break. After 5 or 6 mins and atleast 100yds of north - south battling its close. I start to get it into the skinny water and I don't see wing flaps. Wtf?!?!? HOLY $#!T!!! what is it bro? All of a sudden I see spots, my eyes are tryin to focus through the fog, mist, and sweat. No phu©kin waaaaay! SEVENGILL!!!!!!! I'm freaking the phuck out! It's Rollin in the rub leader, thrashing like a pissed off gator, and makes one more run through the shore pound b4 I hand the rod off and drag his big ass outta the wash! Pretty sure they heard me WOOOOOOOOOOOW in TJ I was so stoked. A couple walked up as Jason ran to grab my dehooker and couldn't believe the dinosaur that I was wrestling on the sand! Dude that's huuge! Jason came running back we got him dehooked, photos and sent him back. Needless to say I called it after that as it was pushing midnight and didn't wanna get a parkin ticket and I was wore out, being up for 21+ hrs. Man that's what you call the best good Friday I've ever had!

Saltwater Boat Fishing Reports / New Year same results 1/1-1/4-1/10/19
« on: January 11, 2019, 09:13:56 AM »
New Year same grind. Surfs been damn near unfishable when I've had the time to go. Hit the bay on the 1st to break in the new license. Pops and I took my cousin out for his post bday sesh. Bass bit thru the tide swing. Put over 90 in the boat. I easily put 45 in myself. And the 1st booty of the 2019.

My birthday was last Thurs. so I took Friday the 4th off since it was my Bros last day of Xmas break. Started out slow since we launched around slack tide. 45mins after the tide started goin out we started the slayage. Put over 100 in the boat between us almost an even split. My bro might have got a half dozen more than I did. But I put the booty twins in the boat so all was good!

Bday bootys the best!

#2

Took my buddy and his wifey out after I got off at lunch yesterday and we were in the water round noon. They were stoked to not have to rock hop and actually catch more than a few fish. Told em we'd have to weed thru 80-100 spottys to find a hali or two. No bull$#it, 3rd cast I get that familiar chomp chomp dead weight. Thats not a bass...1st fish of the day hali lol.

20"er cpr'd

We caught 20 spottys or so between us 1st drift. Reset lil further south. No bull$#it 1st cast on the new drift. Soon as it hit the bottom I saw my line jump and instantly flipped the bail and cranked down on dead weight. Thats her bro! No f@ckin way! Yep! Hali-berry.

23"

I boat flipped her since I wasn't quite sure she was legal in the agua. Check the mark on the boat and I asked my buddy if he wanted her. He said is she worth killin? I said she'd feed 2 or 3 and they were kinda unsure on if it was worth it and we sent her back to get bigger. I jokingly said I'll get a bigger one b4 we're done ;) we kept on the drift and caught a dozen bass between us and my buddy got a 15" flapjack hali right b4 we had to reset. We Made a few more drifts for 30 more bass and we set up on what would be our last drift round 345. Started out a lil slow with only a few fish between us until we got bout 1/3 of the way thru the drift and we started gettin more fish to commit. After the 3rd double hook up I make a long cast with the wind and half way back to the boat I get crushed. Hard head shakes. Drag rip dead weight. Ok that's her bro! Seriously!?!? Yep! He grabs his lippers and I told him nah get the gaff! Really she that big? Shes big brah! I've never done this b4! You're gonna learn today! She wasn't wanting to show herself for a few mins. Then that Brown blob started getting more definition and you could definitely tell she was very legal! Made a few runs around the front of the ranger and I guided her right to him and he sunk the gaff perfectly! He actually spined her and she was half paralyzed lol damn I'm a good teacher lol

29.75" booty #3

Caught a few more bass and called it a day. Even though it was a lil slow we still managed 60+ bass and 2 legal and 2 short halis. Not a bad start to the year so far.

Saltwater Boat Fishing Reports / Happy Hali-Days 12/24 & 12/27/18
« on: December 28, 2018, 10:19:26 AM »

Took pop's out for a Fish-mas Eve sesh, huge tide swing in the a.m. got on the agua round 1030 as the tide started goin out, we got onto a steady bite jus south of the bridge but there was a ton of debris floating in that area so I opted to move further south to find cleaner agua. Stopped at toms vina spot and got a few bass to the boat b4 I got slammed by the right kine. Had her barely hooked on the underspin and as soon as I went to slide her in the net, she made the head shake that set her free :( fail # 1.

Made a move to see if I could get pops on some more fish. I was outfishing him 17-2 but he did farm half a dozen fish and missed twice as many bites. I told him he needed to work the lure back to boat cuz his drag behind the boat technique wasn't effective with the speed we were getting dragged by the current. He proceeds to make a cast same direction as I did and gets crushed half way back to the boat. Shoulda kept my mouth shut :/ yep its her pops, grab the gaff and after a few trips round the boat I stick her!

Solid 31" booty!

He was stoked and I couldn't help but feel like he stole my fish lol  but seriously I was stoked to put my pops on another big fish! Half hour later we were making our second drift across the zone picking off bass b4 i get crushed. crank down feel heavy dead weight, head shakes. thats her pops, she's big! she's pissed, makes a solid 1st run and starts to come up a bit and I get my 1st few cranks on her, feel more big head shakes and she starts to take some more line, and sticks back to the bottom and pulls before I get a chance to get another crank on her I feel that sickening tug that ends the battle. Bit off clean. Fail # 2. I burned some trees and tried to let my stomach settle a bit and get my head right. We were getting blown around the zone by the wind and the tide fighting each other so I opted to head south a bit and see if I could get anothet good bite. Caught another 30 bass between us b4 I called it a day with bout 70 bass between us and my pop's hali.

12/27/18
Took my cousin out for his bday yesterday and my bro tagged along. High tide at noon so we hit the water lil b4 11. Wind was blowing like crazy, white caps from the kays to nasco. 1st cast I get a chunky grump. Then no one gets anything for almost 10mins, I put 4 more in the boat in the next 4 casts. Then my bro finally gets one and my cuz follows it up shortly after. We made a few more drifts across the zone b4 my cousin gets a good bite. Wasnt sticking to the bottom butbhad crazy head shakes coming up through the water column. Saw a long silver flash, Vina? Wait wtf, Cuda? Yep, pretty decent snot stick for the south bay lol

My bro brought out his panfish rod to make the dinks fun and see how a grumpy felt on 6lb line. He had way too much fun with the spottys and even hooked a flap jack.

My cousin says oh we're in the hali zone? Yeah this whole area is the hali zone lol. Hes using some old 17lb mono on his revo and isnt getting nearly as many bites as i am, and asks if he can use my back up smoke combo. I jokingly tell him he can catch one fish on it. No bull$#it 1st cast he makes he flips the bail over as his underspin hit the bottom and says, why won't it reel? I look at him like wtf did you do to my ish? And the rods loaded up! Son of a bitch! He got bit on the drop! and its the bite you wanna get! Head shakes, drag ripping! Hali-berry! I cant believe what this mofo jus did. I grab the gaff and he plays her out and gets her boat side. Shes legal cuz, get her back up and I'll stick her. She makes one last run and he gets her right where I want her and I stick her right in the belly. My cousins 1st legal! Lucky mofo barely had her hooked too, underspin fell out as soon as the line went slack and she hit the deck. Hes tryin to get a pic from my bro, I'm kinda butt sore he jus caught the 1st legal on my back up set up lol. I make a cast while they're takin pics and I couldn't make this $hit up,  3 cranks in my underspin stops mid crank! Instant Head shake, dead weight, drag rip! That's her! No f*ck@n way! Yep! Put the bitch in the live well this $#its BIG bro! No way! yes mofo get that gaff out and get ready! She's big big! They're both flabbergasted, how the hell did you hook up that quick?!?! She makes a few circles round the boat. B4 we all see her, damn cuz that's a door mat! She's a good one! My bro has the gaff, hes never gaffed a fish b4, my cousins still shaking adrenaline dumpin, hes only gaffed one hali for me b4 and it was a $#it show lol! My bro makes the mistake of tryin to pull towards the boat instead of str8 up so she shoots back down aftet the 1st failed attempt. I coax her back up and coach him through it and he sinks the hook right in the middle of her belly! Holy $#it that was the most hectic 10mins I've probably ever had on my boat, well besides the Leopard - hali back to back few weeks back lmao!

We made another couple drifts and each caught another short hali and another dozen or so bass a piece before we headed for the ramp. 2 legal halis, Easily 90+ spots, 1 sandy, a Cuda, and 2 macks not bad for a 3hr sesh.

Saltwater Boat Fishing Reports / Epic Firsts Back to Back 12/15 & 12/16/18
« on: December 17, 2018, 08:38:37 AM »
Took last weekend off from fishing to take care of some side work and do some Xmas shopping. Pops and I hit the bay on Saturday round 11, no real tidal movement from 10-230 but we put a hurtin on the grumpy bass.

I out fished my pops easily we ended the day with about 75 bass. I put over 50 on the boat, but pops managed to put his 1st corBina in the the boat on an underspin! Jus b4 we were bout ready to go, I got a Hali that was right at 22" so I let her go B) not a bad sesh by any means and we were off the water by 330.

My Lil bro got himself an early Xmas gift he wanted to try out, Abu Revo Sx inshore. So after they got outta church, I had the boat hooked up and ready to roll, we only had til bout 445 to be off the water, had to get to my grammas bday dinner by 6. so we headed to where we caught the majority of the bigger bass the day b4 and proceeded to slay some grumpy bass for the 2nd half of the 1st drift and most of the 2nd drift after I figured out where they were.
Right as we were about to reset for the 3rd drift I got slammed and lay into a decent sized fish that ran str8 for the surface and jumped! Tripped me out since it was too far to get an ID, til I got it to the boat and I realize it's a Lil vina! I boat flipped and tried the major league fishing line catch b4 it hits the deck lol she wasn't hooked well enough to make that happen and flopped on the deck so I tossed her back quick to avoid further stress on her fragile lil self. It was 330 and we figured we had time for one long or two shorter drifts. there was almost no wind so we opted for a shorter drift and I used the trolling motor to make my own slow steady line for where we wanted to end up. My brother and I started putting doubles of grumpies in every few casts and I started talking $#!t to my pops in the back of the boat cuz he couldn't get anything to stick for a good 3/4 of the drift. Bad idea lol not even 5 mins later I jus hear his lil quantum accurist's drag zzzzzziiiiiinnngging and that lil 6'7 medium spinning rod was BENT! -WTF you got Ole man? Bonefish? It's big son! I'm thinking it's a bat ray. It's ripping line and it looks like wing flaps but it's hard to tell with his bass rod doubled over like it's never been b4. He starts to gain some line and she's moving up in he water column. And it seems to flip like a small bat as you get it pointed up off the bottom and makes a directional change. We start Goin around in around circle with it with the trolling motor, still haven't gotten a look at it when it comes up after 5 spins of the boat. Oh My God! Look at that Son! Holy $#!t pops it's a Big ass Leopard! Definitely not what I was expecting him to pull up on an underspin of all things, thought maybe he snagged it, nope fair hooked as could be! Right in the corner of the upper lip. She made a few more runs after she saw the boat the 1st time. I'm trying to stay calm, my dad and brother are freaking out, neither have seen one in the wild lol, I've never hooked or landed one from a boat, its about to get interesting real quick, told pops to stay calm loosen his drag and wear her out more. Had my bro get everything off the front deck and hold him to get back. I knew I only had one shot at grabbing her and had to make it happen or I'd never hear the end of it! I had my pops guide her up along the side of the boat and as soon as she was within reach I knelt down went for the tail grab! She went ape $hit and tried to gator roll outta my hand b4 she hit the deck. Luckily I'm a bit stronger than your average deck hand B) she made it over the bow onto the deck and my pops 12lb P-line proceeds to snap instantly! I grabbed her again and tossed her gently onto the floor of the drivers seat lol my bro and dad were shocked at how easy I made it look X) she was still pretty green so I played fish model for my pops' 1st Leo!

She wanted that blade bait! Good Ole new penny swimmer!

After the release I burned some tree and recouped after the stressfulness and my adrenaline rush came down a bit, they were like what do you do after something like that. I said there's after legal halibut waiting to get caught still and we got bout 30mins of prime fishing time to do it! 1st cast I get slammed and reel in a chunky grump. Which seemed like a dink after having a 35+lb leopard in the boat lol. My bro makes his 1st cast and gets slammed few cranks in, I look over and his 13 envy rod is bendo! Good one? YEAH! it's HEAVY BRO! I see serious head shake. THIS AIN'T NO BASS BRO! Ok keep her head off the bottom, she's pullin him around a bit, you feel flat hard pulls and shakes? YEAH! that's her bro. I'm trying to keep him calm, he's saying his prayers, asking for any help he can get, I'm coaching him through it gaff in hand, she stays down for a few mins, he's $#!ttin bricks, I see her finally, no sign of the underspin, she inhaled it, she's doing the slow circle of death to the surface. Keep her head in the water, next rotation I'm gonna stick her, don't reel up any more jus pick the rod tip up til she's in the boat. Last half circle and I sink the gaff right in her stomach!

My Bros 1st legal Hali! 31" beauty

Well I knew I probably wasn't gonna top that so I told me they got me ;) merry early Xmas to the both of em and we headed for the dock. Not a terrible way to end a weekend.

Saltwater Boat Fishing Reports / Afternoon Flattys 12/1 & 12/2/18
« on: December 04, 2018, 08:48:10 AM »
Took pops out Saturday afternoon to see how the post-storm bite was. Got there lil after 1 and fished til sunset. Bite was on from the 1st cast we started slayin the bass. Bit or hooked up on every cast for the 1st hour and a half.

Bite slowed as we finished our 2nd drift. So we reset and picked em off through the 1st 2/3rds of our drift. Pops says lemme get one of them zman grubz I was slayin em on last week. Told him to put a heavier jig head on to weed out the dinks. Wish I hadn't told him that lmao he stuck 2 chunky definitely legal grumpy bass back to back and then gets crushed by the right kine! His Berkley lightning rod was seriously bendo and I see his line fly off his diawa baitcaster and knew he was in for a battle! After a few runs I see deep color and the tell tail white mouth open headshakin, doormat pops! Grab the gaff, he swims her along side the boat and I go for the stick, hit her hard right in the head but got all gill plate and she didnt like any of that lol!  She shoots back down pi$$ed off and not wanting anymore of the gaff! After a lil back and forth he gets her back up and I sink the gaff right behind her head! After a few high fives and hugs, we get her in the well! Made a few more drifts tryin to one up my pops, Caught a few dozen more bass b4 the sun dipped and we did the same.

Been a few decades since my pops got a legit doormat, though his pb is almost 3 times this big (38lbs from MB in '84) he was stoked to out fish me and put some meat in the freezer! Ended the day with about 85 bass between us pretty much even split and my pops' Hali.

My bro was hella jealous he couldn't get out with us so I took him and his buddy Josh out after church on Sunday. Launched lil after 130 and went str8 back to the AO from the day b4. We started off sticking em right away again. Lots of doubles on grumpies and my bro got a 15" hali within the 1st 30mins. We made 3 passes through the zone b4 we switched it up and went a lil further towards the deeper water. We targeted the ledges between 16-22' lookin for bigger spots, maybe a sandy and of course HalleBerry ;) my bro was the 1st one to get the right bite, but it turned out to be the grumpiest bass of the day.

We all caught a few that were round legal size b4 we reset the drift and continued to put spots on the boat for 2 more passes through the zone. As the tide peaked and the sun started to get low we made one last reset on the drift we started out on and after my bro and His buddy doubled up I made a long cast and said alright boys, we're jus about out of time. They started to get $hit put away and get ready to dip back to the dock. I get slammed half way back to the boat but some how it missed the hook. They're like one last cast? Of course I can't leave after a solid bite so we all make one last cast. I get absolutely demolished 3 cranks in, as soon as I layed into this fish I knew it was her! They're both like no phukin way! Seriously! Yeeeeppp it's her boys get the stick! My bro grabs the gaff, but when we get color I'm not sure shes gaff worthy, grab the net bro jus to be safe, he scoops her up and sure enough shes a solid keeper! Not as big as my pops' from the day b4 but I'll take it!

Nothing like some booty and a gorgeous sunset 😎

Back to back 80+ fish days and legal flattys, not a bad way to spend the weekend 😊

Saltwater Boat Fishing Reports / Dos Mas 11/23/18
« on: November 24, 2018, 05:33:53 AM »
Took the boat out again yesterday with my pops and my lil bro joined us. Huuuuuge tide swing in the am, so we launched around 9 from basically the parking lot. Started off a lil slower than last week but we started to pick em off here and there on our 1st drift. And continued to scratch out spotties between 14-18ft on swimmies and underspins. My bro and pops put a few doubles in the boat.

But I put the twins in the live well!

Ended the day with about 80 bass and my 2 Hails for the boat!

Not a bad way to spend a black Friday, hope everyone had an awesome Turkey day.

Saltwater Boat Fishing Reports / Back In/To business 11/17/18
« on: November 18, 2018, 02:24:54 PM »
Been a minute, I've been around ;) hit the surf a few times since the last time I posted. Fished my aunties lake, almost all of the summer/early fall Sunday's.

Anyways... boat was outta commission since june :'( pops got her running right last weekend and took her out while I was at a concert, he and my brother got into a decent bass bite in the bay. I took him out yesterday, basically no tide from 9-2. Told him its was either gonna be really good or horrible... 1st cast we double up with spotties. Well they were biting to say the least. Ended the day with ~100 bass between us, 2 Mack's and I got a lil vina.

And some taco meat 😅🤣😂😊

Felt good to get back out and pick back up where I left off 😏

Now if I can get a grinner to bite this week I'll be super-stoked 🤙

High tide lined up with last light. Seemed like it would be a good time to soak some baits. My brothers buddy was at the house, saw me loading up and had his rod in his truck so I grabbed a couple extra macks and he tagged along. On the sand 30mins b4 sunset and had baits in the agua 20mins later with only a few stragglers still surfing. Within an hour I had a legit knock down and reeled up a shredded head with all the meat bit clean off. Good sign but sucks she missed the hook. Toss out some filet mignon and within 5mins I get what appeared to be a bass bite that managed to pull the weight loose. Pick the rod up feel some tuggin and definitely a fish swimming with the bait and weight so I swing and sure enough there's something wiggling on the hook, felt like a pissed off decent sized bass. Crank it in and it comes rollin out the suds and white wash and my buddy Alex says, "Oh it's a smooth hound!" I go to grab it and say damn it's got some big eyes, and nose and wtf? Those are teeth bro! That's a soup dude! Top ramen edition. But hey target acquired, I wish I woulda took a shot of the 10/0 in his mouth but I got it out pretty quick to keep from completely breaking his fragile little face and jaws  😳

Lil bugger definite had some lil prickly future fangs 😅

Grinner Grinage

I was pretty stoked and hopeful that his mom was in the area! We rebaited a few times and got a few critter and a decent sharky bite when Alex's rod starts screamin and he's on with what seemed to be the right kind but I think he mistook the initial wing slaps for head shakes! But he was stoked to be bendo with his first surf fish no matter the type! He proceeded to get his ass handed to him for the better part of 15mins b4 I managed to grab his 1st surf bat!

Not huge but a solid 40" surf bat! We soaked couple more soaks until 1145 and headed for the hood with only a couple more questionable bites.

Good to see they're breeding around the county, hopefully next sesh I can run into her mom and talk about her daughter's new lip piercing 😉

Saltwater Boat Fishing Reports / April Big Bay Hali Slayage
« on: April 25, 2018, 09:29:18 AM »
Well with the sub-stellar surf conditions as of late and semi dead grinner bite, along with my Lil truck being outta commission the past few weeks, I’ve been getting the boat salty close to home 😎

Took pops out a few weekends ago and put a couple legal flatties in the boat! Along with easily 60+ spotties and a few Macs mixed in

My brother couldn’t go that Saturday so I took him out the next day, after church and put him on a legal flatty of his own!

Word got out and I took Dre and his wife out the following sat 4/14/18 to see if the Flattys were still eatin! We slayed the bass and had farmed a few solid fish before it happened! Dre’s wife stuck a solid spotty and he doubled up as she landed hers. As I was unhookin her fish so he could get a pic I let my underspin jus fall to the bottom and as soon as I went to finish my retrieve it gets absolutely destroyed! Instant massive head shakes followed by some of the craziest runs my lil size 25 smoke inshore has ever seen! There were times durring the melee I wasn’t sure what it was! It had power like a bat ray and the attitude and force it pulled with was unbelievable! After several blistering drag sizzling runs I finally see her bout 6 ft under the boat and I still am in awe of how big this thing is and as my eyes actually relay the message to my brain that this is a giant hali my heart and knees almost give out! But I gathered my self after a few HOLY SH!TS & OMFGS I get her pointed the right direction and as she’s about to break the surface Dre sticks her wit the perfect gaff shot right in the gills! Woooooooooows were heard in point Loma I’m pretty sure 🤣😂😅 along with a few Phuck yeahs and a few other of my favorite swears and animalistic wooows, fist pumps and high 5s!

My new PB Halibut!!! 36.75”

I was beyond stoked to say the least!  We fished a few more drifts and caught more bass and called it a helluva day!

Took last weekend off to eat some of the bounty 😊😋  corn flake battered and fried in avocado oil! Fam loved it and I destroyed 7 tacos for good measure!

Took a half day yesterday and took my cousin who hasn’t seriously fished with me in over 8 yrs 😏 and his GF out to see if I couldn’t show him how to fish again and try and put them on a couple Flattys. His GF got on board 1st with a short.

Not to be out done my cuz hooks one shortly after and I couldn’t let them have all the fun and stuck a short as he was crank in his in for the double!

They were stoked even though they weren’t keepers. We made a few more drifts and the wind picked up a bit but it wasn’t too bad yet. On our 4th drift as were nearing the reset zone my cousin sticks a nice spotty and as he’s askin for a pic I get crushed! Instantly I knew this was the one! Hali cuz! Oh yeah? Ziiiiiiiiiing!!! Rods doubled over and she’s pissed! Yeah cuz bigggin!!! He tosses his spotty back and grabs the net. NAAAAH that ain’t gonna work! Ok gets the gaff, I’ve never done this before. wtf! Aight jus stick her in the head when I swim her along the boat, after a few runs she’s right at the boat, ok stick her cuz! 1st try he misses and she gets pissssssed and darts back down! Holy phuck! Ok that sucked lol he grabs the net and as I bring her back up he tries to scoop her and she absolutely destroyed the net and shoots thru the bottom of my POS bass net that’s 10+yrs old! Gawddayum cuz this is a cluster phuck! I run the rod thru the whole in the net and tell him he better stick this bitch next time or I’m throwin his ass in after it if it gets off! 😅🤣😂😅😣 after what seemed like forever I finally wear her out again and he manages to stick her right behind the head! I was so relieved I didn’t scream or do anything but hug my cousin and thank the fish gods we got her in the boat!

Not a PB but definitly the most stressful hali I’ve ever landed!

We gave it another hour or so before we got hungry and headed to the hood!
