Fishing Talk / Re: Long Rod specifications for the surf
« on: May 06, 2015, 01:11:16 PM »
Seems fine to me. You may or may not get more distance, but based on your recent reports, you're reaching that zone where the fish are. Distance isn't just dependent on rod length, there's also the type of rig you're using, sinker weight, the reel, the type of cast, your form... so many variables. A 50yd cast with bait is a pretty decent cast to me.

"Sea"nco De Mayo .... I see what you did there  ;)

Damn Tom, is there anything you can't catch?!! Baby steps during your recovery. As my friend would say, "You gotta crawl before you walk."

There's nothing like seeing the look in a youngster's eyes when he hooks into his first "beast", Verne

Absolutely!!

As other have said, bring squid or macks and try the back bay, the front did nothing for me all of last and the beginning of this year. Cannon ball rig is probably best for the bay.

Just left Lucky Seafood and their macks are some of the best looking store bought a I've ever seen!  I also saw this:

BTW ... Lucky Seafood Market Mira Mesa had some killer fresh macs yesterday. The smaller kind ...

Just the intel I needed! Went to Shelter the other night and only scored 3 macks.
Good to know. I was going to attempt mackerel fishing maybe this weekend to get some bait for when i make my full return!

What I've been hearing is that the incoming tide is best for making bait at Shelter. I had the outgoing tide the other night.
