See if you can find the pic where we are fishing long rods.

I hit all of our haunts and only see boobies and beer.  No long rods.

Fishing Talk / Baby Bass Conditions (8/24)
« on: August 24, 2016, 08:29:09 AM »
Too much time at the bar waiting for a clearing to fish.  Conditions were great.  2-3' surf with No salad until 10pm and it was a shore line chopped up stuff.

Very few bites and I happened to stick one bass which would have made great bait as it was only 10" long.  Was going to head in Jim's stretch of beach, but too many margaritas prevented it.  Jim did much better than us.

That's it... no pulled hooks or busted lines.  It was very calm and relaxing to the point we could even hear each other talk over the waves.  Hopefully someone else did good last night.

I wouldn't use that thing in the surf.  The last thing you need is a kelp monster grabbing it and swimming off down the beach with it!

It's too cool and I would only use it in the bay and FW to be safe.

Hope these slobs stick around. Geez I feel so Tom-like locked away onshore ... :P :P

God, you made me feel even worse now that I'm landlocked....

Yeah man, I got to be honest and it looks like a washed out Bluefin.  White anal fin and typical Bluefin spots that are kind of washed out by the tail, but pics don't do it justice and I can't believe I can't ID that thing.  Now that I look at it, all YFT have pectoral fins that reach the bigger second dorsal fin.  BFT pectoral fins do not... and this pic looks like it does not unless it is a bad angle, so I am sticking with BFT.

In any case, One hell of a fish!

Wow...  I have to come back to this since I'm busy at work this morning, but it sounds like a big soupfin because of the hit and major splashes at the surface.  They have a nack for doing that, but easily could have been some other sort of fusiform body shark and not that of a sevengill or more snake-like body.

It sure looks like a wind knot but it sounds so weird of the placement....

Once again, I'll come back to post on this once I think about it and I FEEL your pain.  I'm actually glad someone else is also getting some heart break besides me!  lol

I had to angle him with a bit of line to get to the shore

Where were you fishing from that you had to get to the shore?  Not location but wondering if it was a pier or jetty.................................just being nosey brother  ;D

Beach fishing.  Steve was over top of me fighting a fish and my shark took a long hard run towards the reef.  If I tried to reel down and run with him, he would have gained ground and made it to the reef as I stopped him right at the edge.  I tighten the drag and walk down to the beach away from him and it creates a pendulum motion to the fish and he makes a half circle away from the reef in the same circular pattern.  I'm not sure I could explain it eloquently in type, but it keeps the fish in my immediate area without having to run the beach and track him down, especially if there is reef or structure on either side.

A good case to use as an example would be the 60" bat that I caught and the monster that Steve lost a few months ago.  He decided to follow his which drug him down to the jetty 100+ yards away and snapped him off.  Mine tried doing the same thing, but I employed the buttoned drag and moving in the opposite direction to make her swing into the area that I wanted her.  It went back and forth for a while, but I managed to keep her within 15 yards of my sand spike.

I hope that answered your question as I'm daydreaming about the next shark now and forgot what I was going to explain!!  lol

Lol, good to see a ninja sesh out of you.

That's a solid carp, they are some hard fighting fish 8)

I didn't buy a permit or fish in a public area.  I'm not one for ninja fishing and usually stick to the rules, but I wanted to catch a fish after having put in all that outboard motor work on Saturday just to find there is still an issue.  lol

Congrats Verne!  Those are beauties and well deserved on the bigger model!

Pretty soon it's shark fishing time, so I want to see you with some long rods out on the beach.  LOL

Freshwater Shore Fishing Reports / Golden Bone

I had a few telescoping rods that were recently given to me which are terrible, but they were the same ones I bought from a TV ad when I was 7 ot 8 years old, so I tossed a cheap reel on and packed some corn in my shorts to ninja sesh a local puddle near the house.

I had my head on a swivel, but within 5 minutes, got lucky and crushed a beautiful golden bonefish!

My guess was 8 pounds, maybe more but was a healthy fat fish.  Unlike the "rules" that say all carp must die here, I let him go to get bigger and cause some more eco-destruction!  LOL

I spent the next hour hunkering down in the shade away from the rod without even a sniff.  Too many people still around, but it was fun anyway and thanks Jim for giving me the push to get on some carp!

Now I know where the corvina went!  LOL

Nice trout, boss!
