I bet you guys had to carry up a lot of empties to the recyclable container, but at least they were lighter without the contents inside! :)

Really only had a chance to enjoy 3. Fish interrupted our beer drinking ;D

That doesn't necessarily make it easier LOL ;D

Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / Turned into an epic night of crazy
« on: September 12, 2016, 07:52:06 AM »
Big surf Saturday night forced us off our normal AO, so we decided to try for some Leos at a spot we haven't fished in quite awhile. Got lines in around 6:30, but it was pretty windy. We settled in with a couple of adult beverages and watched the sun go down. There was no salad, but to be honest with the strong current/wind, we were doubtful. We fished on and just after sundown the wind calms down and I get a runner. Grab the rod, but the fish dropped the bait. Judging from the bite marks, it was a small model, but the right kind ;D

Then it started.

I got a small ray. Then Kyle got a small ray. Then I got a small ray, Then Kyle gets a bigger ray. Then, I don't know, we lost track. We had two rods out each, and for the next couple of hours we were running around catching and releasing a bunch of fish. It got crazy, one of us would be on a fish and the other would have to go grab the  other's rod to pull in another fish. Some how I pull in a 40" sand shark, but it was actually connected to another rig that my hook caught the metal eye on a 2oz weight that was connected to another rig that was snagged on a surf leash. Finally Kyle hooks up with what we came for, a nice Leo. He had to land it solo because I was busy bringing in a 30" ray. Anyways, we get a tape on the beast and some pics. 51" and Kyle's first Leo! About 10:30 the bite slowed, so we called it and went home happy. Wish we had better pics, but it got so busy we kind of lost track ;D

Looks calm, but the wind was blowing!

Should have seen all the stuff this guy was dragging around.

Don't know why we felt compelled to measure a croaker ::)

A whole bunch of these with a couple 25" to 30" models.

Target acquired and Kyle's first Kitty 8)

Never caught any the size you did. Caught some smaller models in the bay and those F'ers were NASTY!

Swap the crows for -1s and that pretty much sums up the last 3 weeks for me :(

If I don't get some counters pretty soon I'm going to have to change my screen name to -2 ;D

Eric, looks like we're going to hit the AO at the Big Pond again Saturday AM if you want to come down. PM me and I'll give you details.

And you might be able to smell my new 'Stang now too. Had 8 beers explode in my trunk yesterday :(

Damn Eric, would have loved to met you in person. Yeah, upgraded from the 12 to a 16 'Stang with a few mods.

I look like a short fat old guy with grey hair. If I'm at Longfin M-F, I'll be in a suit and tie. Yeah I know, but it's a living. If it's on a weekend then I'll be wearing my normal ratty-assed fishing clothes ;D

What were you doing at Longfin? I thought you were LA based?

Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / New AO
« on: August 30, 2016, 01:13:14 PM »
We hit a new section of our new AO last Saturday hoping for less people, more structure and something big.

The hike down was a piece of cake. The hike back kicked my fat-old-out-of-shape-ass big time, which probably explains the lack of people, at least for a Saturday AM on the beach in The OC. There were a couple of surfers, but they either all went to where the swell was too big to fish or were cool enough to walk down the beach a little ways. No campers, no fish cops, just a few joggers/walkers and some lifeguards rolling by and waving.

There is structure all over this section. Going to take quite a few trips to fish it all. We nailed a bunch of small critters. No grinners or big rays, but I know they are out there. It's an AM spot only, but with the exception of the hike back, pretty F'n cool.

If anybody wants details on the spot, PM me 8)

Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / Beautiful Day, 1 Fish
« on: August 14, 2016, 11:22:45 AM »
Beautiful day at our Summertime AO, but only 1 tractor and some stolen bait to show for it. Insert picture of 3' Mr Wiggles. Locals report off and on action for Beans, small Butts, Croaker, etc on the small rods. We worked the beach with lures and squish strips for nada. Didn't see anything in the water either. This AO has a lot of different beaches to fish, everything from rocks to sandy bottoms and we haven't even fished half of it yet. Kind of nice to fish the big pond, but some of these spots are a hike to get to and back. Not cheap either if you add up Gas, Munchies, Mickey D's for Breakfast, Bait, Parking, Gear, Cheese Fries, Craft Beers and Burgers after. But a lot of those beers are 9% to 12% and there are worse ways to spend a Saturday ;D
