I'm running this one now. I have used several Coast lamps and all are reliable.

That style is very powerful. We have some guys using them and they will light up the place.

Personally I don't like that much extra gear on my head, so I go with the smaller units. I usually carry two so I've got a backup/loaner.

No specific brand recommendation, but I always try to get one with more than one setting and has a bright and wide beam. Big 5 has a decent selection and if you sign up as an E Team member on-line (it's free), you automatically get a 10% off coupon. Doesn't seem like much, but it's better than full price plus you get emailed coupons frequently and reminders of impending sales.

I did recently buy a 3 pack of headlamps as I find myself needing extras for dropped ones or for friends who are I'll eguipped for night fishing. I got it for less than $20.

Make sure you get a rechargeable one, you don't wanna constantly be replacing expensive batteries.

Check out amazon and read the reviews, you'll know what your getting prior to purchasing it.

Lots of quality ones that are reasonably priced.

Had mine a little over 2 years now.

Heavy use, surprisingly easy on batteries. Water proof seal has not failed me.

Would recommend!
