Long beach to Catalina and Back
« on: November 19, 2014, 03:47:08 PM »
Went up to long Beach to fish Catalina with a buddy of mine.   He just bought a 22 foot hydra sport and wanted to test her out at the island.   Needless to say it was gonna be a long day.  I got to the
lbc about 4:30 and we fueled  the sled with 80 gal. and launched at 2nd street marina.  We headed out and the weather was beautiful.  Fished the west end of the island from two harbor around the point to the other side.  The bite was really slow.  picked a few up on the surface iron up to 4 lbs. and a few on the weedless and lead heads.  we decided to head in early and make some bait around the oil rigs and fish the bottom for some lings.  made the bait and had two break off, but had to cut the fun short due to the boat was eating fuel like no other.  We headed in to drift the break wall heading into Alomitos bay.  we didnt have the fuel to hit the north wall as we intended.  We got into  a nice pick of one and two pounders with a few surprises.  As usual lost a few BIG ones to the rocks, but for my first trip up north I would call it a great day.  the boat was on fumes, and Jesse is hell bent to sell it.  Just not enough range for 80 gal.  I need to get back to taking more pics as when I get out Im hell bent on fishing and dont stop for pics.....

Thanks Tom.  We knew it was slow at the island, but you never know when it turns on so we went.  Let guess the weights, as pics are always bigger or smaller than reality. I have weights on both fish..juis :o for fun.

ahh come on Steve. ;D.. the calico was right at 4 and the sandy was 7.56 when I weighed them.  the sandy coughed up his dinner a pile of crabs and clams in the live well before we weighed it.  so maybe 8 at time of catch.
