Perfect weather for soup (02-07-17)
« on: February 08, 2017, 12:25:34 AM »
Didn't take too much coaxing to get Binh to hit the surf with me. I brought the bait and he brought his sand hand skills ;) Surfline called for 2-4' surf, there was 5'ers mixed in there. Lots of broken up kelp and eel grass too. My first handful of casts could attest to that. Didn't even have any sand to sink my spike into. Binh got lucky and found a small patch for his. Held mine the whole time.

An hour goes by and I had nothing to show for it but a pile of grass and kelp and this skunk busting smooth hound and a cool little crab hiding in a clump of foliage I reeled in.

Decided to make a move closer to our point of entry while Binh moved south. I found better conditions and far less salad to reel in. First bait goes out and comes back in untouched. I recast the same bait and see Binh heading my way. He posts up to my right. We chat about the guy who came over to talk to me and my rod begins to do the fish biting thing and then the clickers starts screaming! I take it out of the holder and push the star drag forward. I get some sizzling runs that fooled Binh into thinking I had a bat ray. What the heck is that?! Haven't seen one of those in a long while. Whatever I had turns around and is racing towards me. Gotta reel my ass off to catch up!! 3 runs and some solid head shakes later, we see it flopping around in the skinny. She was pissed!! Lol!!

Slowly climbing that leader board!!

Well dam...  I guess we picked the wrong beach.

Great catch Mike!  Any more Shark List info for the chart?  I have some updating to do.

Ok, now I know how Mike felt last year when he watched me reel in all the sharks.  :-[
That shark had me fooled by the initial run, it sounded like a Bat by the way Mike's reel was screaming. I was so stoked to see a legit shark fight again. Soup fins are way better fighters then 7's. That shark was no match with Mike's new reel tho. You can't tell by the picture, but the shark was round and was pissed off! So jealous, but at least I called the right spot.  ;)

The next one is mine! >:(

My rod is thicker than your rod, my rod is stiffer than yours. My rod is better because it fishes for great whites, my rod is better than yours.

But it doesn't get any action without a battery powered device.
