Our family has had a nasty cold running it's course over the last few weeks so I've had to cancel a few planned trips to the beach. This weekend everyone was finally feeling mostly better so my wife pushed me out the door when I got an invite from Ron to meet up last night. I met Ron and my dad a little after 5:00.
The tide was way out and structure wasn't ideal so after some deliberating I picked a spot and started soaking. Tried mac, perch, and then squid for a bit to see if there were any bats around, but all came back untouched. The macs and squid that I hastily picked up at a liquor store were sub par at best, pretty dried out and freezer burned.
I knew I had to leave at 8:00 so at 7:30 I pinned on a big chunk of mac jerky and sent it out into the hole. The tide had filled in a bit at this point. After about 10 minutes my rod starts doing the sevengill shuffle. Picked it up and started reeling as fast as I could as it swam toward me. Finally got pressure on and felt the weight as the circle set in the corner of his jaw. Got him beached, unhooked, measured, took a couple pictures and sent him home. Just in time to pack up and get home to make dinner for my wife and I
81" male, incoming tide, on a dehydrated mac head.
