Tree-Top Catfishing
« on: February 15, 2017, 12:40:06 PM »
I was on a mission to catch some "Tree-Top" Catfish or fish some really heavy cover to see if I could find a big cat ready to pounce on my bait.
The Square Boma also needed to finally soak in this particular body of water in which it had never in the past.  The big V!

The boat motor ran like crap, but my goal was to fish heavy structure and even the deep water marks on the fish finder.

Deep water cat fishing was about 130' on big marks!

I brought my bass gear and saw some WHOPPER BASS!  The biggest one was about 15 pounds and realistically the biggest bass I've ever seen.  I threw everything in my bass box at him and couldn't get him to commit.  What I wouldn't have done for some live shiners....

I had one big hit on a mackerel chunk I dropped in the tree tops and he lodged himself in the heavy thick stuff.  After 10 minutes of trying to free him, I wound up losing it.... ugh.  My olny catfish bite of the day.

I did have a bunch of bass swimming around the boat at one spot.  They wouldn't look at anything until I tossed the Trout Glider.  They followed it right to the boat until I had to do the "Musky Figure 8" since I ran out of room.  I never got any of them, but it was pretty fun sight fishing them pigs!

Oh well...  Boat motor needs replacement sometime this year or have it fixed.  I may just need another boat.  lol

Until next tide, thanks for reading!

You can't catch them from your computer chair.

Sounds like a nice day regardless  :)
If you do go for a new boat, let me know before you sell the Boma...

Much better by that tree than when we were out there. Least you got a good hit but nothing worse than when they bury themselves into stuff.

Workload has been off the charts keeping me from doing anything.
