Usual Tuesday night program. Check the surf, then decide which bar to hit.
This time the preferred candidate was weeded out, so we spent a little time poking around. We found a spot that looked promising. Not too weedy, no surfers, so we hit the beach and skipped the bar. Turned out to be the right decision.
Made our way from the access to the selected spot. Pretty sure by the evidence that we were poaching another crews favorite location. Not mentioning any names, but maybe the pictures will help you figure it out.
We made our test casts. Tom came in with a little bit of weeds, so did I. Nice.
Tom got his bait in first. The wind and the current put a big belly in his line so I waited a little before casting out. Let him chum the area and pick up some weeds before they got to me. Worked like a charm.
I finally decided the time was right and cast out. Got weeded out a few times and then was rewarded with this.
95" female.
Re-tied and cast out. Two minutes later I got this.
84" male. Ready for love.
Opted not to re-tie and cast out. Two minutes later I got this.
Another 84" male. Also rather horny. Same one? Don't know.
Back to back to back sharks. Before dark.
Tom is getting a little grumpy by now, even though he was really digging the tail rope.
I was tired, hot, and sweaty. I decided to take a rest and finish my beer.
I kept my bait out of the water to give Tom first shot. Kinda like the penalty box.
Well, it worked. Sort of. He had a great bite that spit the hook on him. Frustration level-Maximum.
I decided if he wasn't going to pull them all the way in, I better get a bait in the water.
Not long after, Tom hooked up. Fought that sucker to the shore. Now it was my turn with the tail rope. Worthless. That damn thing spun out of my hands over and over. Finally I went old school and just hauled his fish to shore.
Nice 74" soupie. Tom was feeling a little better now.
Baits back in the water and the action has slowed considerably. I see a quick bounce and grab the rod.
Another male. 75" I must have hit the shark orgy.
Soaked a few more baits and called it a night.
My whole body is sore.
Thanks Tom for handling my fish for me. Even if you do give me asterisks.
