Nothing to see out there.
« on: August 20, 2017, 06:22:08 PM »
Went out 6 miles to the 18 area, no paddies to be seen, no dolphins, birds, jumping fish, no macs biting. Went to the PT Loma kelp for naught, went up to a the wreck alley, nada.

Stopped by a little pile of something and got hung up, drove the around to free it and pulled out an 18" calico. That was it all day.  :(

I'd be jealous but since yesterday was probably my 5th trip into the ocean ever I can't be. Did follow your advice about working structure you find though. Current was a bear by then blowing me probably 50 yards a minute. Had to work the electronics to see the drift over the pile, and position the boat right in order to drift across it.

Did have several times lots of marks about 20 feet down but didn't respond to what I had rigged up at the time. Dropped sabiki and squid but nothing.

That current was awful!  Super strong and no wonder you were moving so fast.

Yep, once the current slows down, then keep doing those short drifts along it.  It is a very rewarding type of fishing, but a lot of work. Things should start improving here soon to make it easier and there has been a number of bigger model fish caught near the structure recently.  I just tried something different and headed south the other day.
You'll get 'em, I don't have any doubt.

I heard a lot of boats running all over the place that day.  I also heard of a few boats finding them and getting some quality fish.
Oh well, next time Len!
