When you don't fish with Tom 9/2/17

When you don't fish with Tom,

You meet at 4am to hitch the trailer up to your own truck.

You hit SI ramp at 430, find no line, and make the tight launch between the rocks and construction fence in only 2 tries.

You  wonder what is taking so long to bring the boat around to the club and find out the boat got stopped by Harbor Police for no lights and escorted to the dock.

You go to Denny's for breakfast before heading home to find the voltmeter to get the electrical going so you have a bait pump and radio.

You find the volt meter, get back to the boat, and find everything is working now, except the lights. Hmmm.

You load up three kids. One of which asks questions non stop. All day.

You drive the boat some.

You spend time looking for paddies, see a stopped boat, and have the wheel taken from your hands when you say you are not going to go take a look to see what they are doing.

You find a paddy, holding rat yellows and have a serious cluster with 3 kids hooked up and only land one fish before the commotion scatters the school.

You decide to hi LJ at mid day, pull into the middle of the parking lot and decide to fish right here.

You catch the big yellow, not Tom.

You see one young man hand off his second fish all day to his buddy so he doesn't have to wear the stripe. Pretty classy for a 14yo kid.

You get back to the club, unload the boat, and get invited for a drink on a 73' yacht. It turns into several drinks, light refreshments, smoked pork shoulder and loin for dinner, birthday cake and homemade ice cream.

The difference in the experience between my two good friends taking me fishing is phenomenal.

I feel lucky to be invited to fish with either one.

Sounds like a typical John trip.
Nice yellowtail and write up, Steve.
You can't catch them from your computer chair.
