Almost Finished!!!
« on: September 10, 2017, 11:20:28 AM »
Bought a varmac 11' 7" "gaff blank" lol 2 piece broom stick, guys use em for huge surface irons, dude at squidco said, apparently quite a few islanders order em for alua surf rods too. Got it to my buddy Beau a few months ago while the bite was slow, life got in the way a bit while he was building it, but it's almost finished! Some of the preview pics he sent, still need a final coat or 2 of epoxy but I'm stoked, can't wait to get her bent and get some grinners to the sand on her!

Man that marbling looks bad ass!!!

What happens when you stick a fish with a two piece gaff?

Thread work and marbeling looks fantastic!

The finish looks a little thick. You might not need more coats and if you have issues with it not leveling check to make sure the blank is level in the areas you're working, only do 2 or 3 at a time and apply heat! I like to thin my first two coats and it's never smooth over the thread this frost 2 coats.
Keep it tight

Looks pretty bad ass Josh!  I bet it's going to be super sweet when you get your first grinner on it.

Yeah, I also read 2-piece gaff and was puzzled.  Looking great though!

Have you tested it yet on any bats or grinners? I've seen you cast and it casts well, but don't remember seeing if you fought a fish on it or not.
