Morning Browns 8/12 SW MT
« on: August 12, 2017, 01:00:06 PM »

Last time I hit the spruce moth hatch on the Gallatin was circa 2008. On the water last weekend and it was off the scale. No time for pics. Today, a bit slower, but I caught some browns on a river filled with rainbows and cutbows.

Looks like the spruce moths are on the decline, just in time for the hoppers to go come out and jump in the river to cool down!

Didn’t really need to net this fish, but I wanted to try out my new clear net. It works:

Until next time, tight lines to P-Soul,

Thanks, guys. Can't wait for the hoppers - maybe next weekend. Might try a mid-week session at the creek as well.

Such cool looking browns Mike.  Also quite the hatch-match!

BTW, your ewok looks like a perfect match!  I bet you can get some good fly tying material from a lock or two off of her every now and then.  ;D
You can't catch them from your computer chair.

Ha, ha, no kidding. The dark will be a perfect swap for marabou on wooly buggers. Tan and white for some soft hackle patterns.

We had a cream/orange-haired dog years ago that provided nice locks for a SoCal shrimp pattern called the Razzler.

The possibilities are endless!

So that's what a river is suppose to look like?! The ones down here just have concrete on the sides.  :-[
