Picked up a new reel before my 2.5 day. Wanted to have a 20/25/30lb option. Got the two speed just for kicks.
Been liking the Fathoms. Got a star drag 40 for my surf rod. Works great. 25N for yoyo and bait fishing on 40. Super nice.
Caught 4 Bluefin in the 20lb range and 4 YT of similar size. Reel performed as expected. Low gear was nice when the fish got close, high gear let me pick up line when they rushed the boat.
Shop I bought it at spooled me to the top with 50lb Berkeley Pro Spec. I chose it because it was the smoother of my two choices, and I felt like it would be easier on my fingers when I neglected to wrap them with flex tape. It was. Got grooves, but no cuts before I got smart and hit the flex wrap.
Fly lining baits sucked as the line would periodically stick and wrap around under the spool then unwrap. Made for jerky line going off the spool. Pretty it lost me a few bites as I let fish run with the bait after a pick up.
Probably going to take it off and try something else. Owner is on an 8 day, so I'll wait til he comes back.
