Grinner Gathering III - November 18th, 2017

Early arrival not an advantage. It is a surfing beach, not a fishing beach. Hour before sunset should be good. Time to set up, see the sunset. Parking is 10 minute walk, but drive up and drop of gear is possible with a second person to watch the gear. Lot is locked at dark.

When you say early arrival are you talking about at the beach or at the bar for some cold ones and a cheeseburger before the main event?

Ok, I'm in for sure.  Dad is hopefully coming down with me.

What time is everyone showing up?
Is it worth getting there earlier in the day for other type of fishing?
Any good spots near by to buy/catch fresh bait?

I take most of the day off from the family for the Gathering and the SNBF, so I知 usually out the door by 11am. If I don稚 have fresh bait, which is rare, I値l hit Shelter Island or OB pier if the mackerel is present. When I do have plenty of bait, I値l find a stretch of sand I can safely soak a bait before meeting up with everyone. I rarely fish daylight hours, so when I can, I take advantage of it.

Nope. Oldest son's good friend from way back. Not made of money so if I don't make the list, that's cool. If I do, I'll go. Maybe fish after. Then I don't have to fight with my wife to leave.

If anyone is in need of a long rod to use at the event, let me know. I now officially have more rods than I could ever think of having in the water at the same time (or even packing along with me).
I couldn't help myself the other day and ended up purchasing a new 14' 3-10oz Phenix Black Diamond custom stick that the guy who ordered it built ended up backing out on, so I picked it up for a steal. Anyways if anyone could use a rod in the 12-13', 4-8oz, 20-40 line class range let me know as I'll probably just pack a few extras in my truck for the trip...Ben, have you gotten your self a sand spike and heavier rod since last years event? I still have the lucky spike if not...😛

Joe, nice of you to offer that.  I might have one back up rod available as a loaner if needed also.

Dang, I need to tie rigs and get all my gear prepped this week!

Thanks Joe, I'm good!  I made the heaviest sand spike imaginable.  My traps get a good workout carrying it down to the beach, haha.  Good on rods too. Have a 4-8 oz 12' and some lighter backups.

I'll probably be a late arrival, but one way or the other I'll make it down to say hey to everyone.

OK, same spot as the last few years.  It can hold hold all of us and there has been some NICE sharks caught there this year as well as crazy numbers!
