Megaladon fishing
« on: December 28, 2017, 12:56:44 PM »
Hit the OC shore line last night without any bait...  my buddy luckily had a couple fresh macks from the peir and I quickly landed a 50"+ leopard. Quick release after she beat my shin up with her tail. I must be getting old because I was moving slow last night and everything beat me up. About 11:30 my long rod finally goes off again and I tighten down the drag and this thing heads out to Catalina. It burned about 200 yards of drag at around 15lbs and then finally stopped. It Charged the sand and then I fought it for another 5-8 mins just outside the break until a big old ray slid up on the beach. She was easily over 50" as well and I couldn't get my thumb and middles finger in her head holes to do a one handed landing like most rays. Cut her up and put her in the cooler then ran a chunk out for bait. Clickers stayed silent until about 3:30 when I got a hit but missed the hookup. Upon inspection the ray had small scratch marks and one decent puncture but that was it.

There's always tonight.

I need to catch another ray to carve up for bait!
Think I'll save a piece for myself as well.  Try some of the recipes I've found  ;D

TP gets whole rays and if we had tiger and hammers all year that would be the norm.
