Super Blood Blue Moon Fishing (1/30)
« on: January 31, 2018, 07:48:10 AM »
My day didn't start out too good.  I kind of had the feeling there would be some layoffs, but really wasn't sure as management was tight lipped.  I got a company meeting email, which was basically the email telling us we were gone.  My entire QA department as well as most of our QC and others...*POOF*

I went home to drink myself into a slumber when Squatch texted and said "Get your ass together... it's fishing Tuesday!".  I kind of met him half way and hit the bar before fishing as I needed something to quiet my noisy mind.

We set up in the surf afterwards and found pretty damn good conditions.  Little to no Surf OR weeds.
Steve gets bit right away and reels in a Kraken.

It's better than an eel!  lol
We get bit on every bait.  Lots of bait thieves out there and lots of swings and misses trying to hook them.

I then see a pretty big thump on the line and grabbed the rod.  All of a sudden I felt another big thump and the line loaded up!  Shark on!!!
It wasn't huge, but I could hear the tail slaps in the water so knew it was a 7-gill right away.  Sandhand Steve was there to tail her and I got my first surf shark of 2018 and broke a 3 month streak without a 7-gill or Soupie!

That helped my brain stop thinking about other things and focus on getting another one.

I wound up with a calico bass and that was that.  We didn't stay late at all and called it quits by 9:30, so a relatively short session, but we were running out of bait and beach.

In any case, thanks for reading and until next tide!

Hey Tom,
Sorry to hear about the job situation. It's crazy how we hear on the news how strong the economy is going but companies are still laying people off. My wife's company is doing the same thing, but still giving out bonuses.  ???

Keep positive my friend!

Congrats on the winter grinner, hopefully this is a sign they are coming back inshore.

Ahh... the ever volatile biotech industry. As we discussed, I’m basically following the same path. Results from our clinicals, which is almost over, will decide my employment fate. Sweet consolation though! Had a feeling you or Steve would get the first one after I lost mine on my new surf rod ;) It has begun! Even Dre is hittin me up!!

Sorry to hear of the layoffs Tom. Corporate madness can strike any of us. Co worker of 30 years got it last week. I'm not getting any warm fuzzies right now.

A nice grinner though.

You can stay home and mope all you want, but Tuesday is Tuesday. I think a few drinks before fishing was a decent compromise.

Glad you came out and glad you broke the dry spell.
