New to the Forum
« on: March 19, 2018, 06:19:39 PM »
Hello all, I'm Kam. I'm a first year Marine bio student at UCSD originally from the PNW (Portland, OR). I don't know if it's customary to give introductions on this forum but I figured I might as well. Since I moved here I've done a lot of float tube fishing for spotties but have also done some shark/ray fishing from the piers and in the bays. Spring quarter I'm planning on bringing down my surf rod I used to use on sturgeon and trying to figure out how to catch sharks from the surf. I hope to learn a thing or two from the experts on this forum. Tight lines!

A couple questions as well about the forum:

1.) how do you guys usually post photos? When I tried uploading even a single photo from my phone it would say the file is too large. What’s a better format for uploading?

2.) what’s the general opinion of this forum in terms of retention of sharks vs. CPR? I’m all about catch and release but I have kept a couple sharks from the piers  to eat. If that’s something that’s frowned upon I won’t post about it here. I intend to release all surf-caught sharks unharmed.

Hey, see you around campus. Truck 2124. Stop and say hi.

Find a photo hosting site. Not photobucket. I use imgur. Figure out their system for posting to forums. They vary. I have to figure it out again every time.

Most of us are catch and release. Sharks anyway. Most of us don't get butt hurt by what you do with a legal catch.

What part of Portland? Lived on west burnside for awhile back in the day.

I'll be sure to say hi next time! What do you do around campus?

And I'm from the Cedar Mills area closer to Beaverton.

Welcome!  Hit us up again when you're ready to go out.  Several of the guys here showed me the ropes when I moved here.

Welcome to the insanity! ;D
I work at UCSD as well at the school of medicine, catch me there and I can clue you into some nice float tube spots for spotties and flatties!
Hopefully you can join us for Batfight and chase some mud marlins!
It's all Tom and Don's fault! They "hooked" me on mud marlins and sharks!

Awesome! I live in the Revelle dorms next to the school of medicine. I'm down to fish anytime, especially next quarter. The batfight events sound awesome as well. It sounds like insanity but I also want to try and catch a mud marlin out of a tube this spring. I'd imagine it being the mother of all sleigh rides.

I know a guy that got towed by a small-ish butterfly ray I think it was in the 30" range?) he definitely didn't want a second time! Tie into a 40"+ and I think that would go from sleigh ride to water skiing out to sea.....lol

You can't catch them from your computer chair.
