So, Mike and Binh went down last night to check on conditions with this front that moved on through.  It was great on Tuesday, but apparently is really weedy now with a ripping southerly current.  This is generally the least weedy spot along our beaches and the high tide prohibits many areas of being fished because the water will push you into the cliffs.

I'm still going down to try as long as anyone else is showing up.  I won't be down until 6pm or so as I have a bunch of things to do today, but hope for the best.  Sometimes it just takes a day before the weeds appear and disappear again.

We'll most likely be right on the other side of the lifeguard towers lined up along that stretch.  We may walk a little north if the kelp situation is too bad closer to the reef.  It may be a short night if the kelp is as bad as Pinoyfisher was mentioning.  BTW, You can only park after dark on the street and won't be able to use the lot.  If you head south of the parking lot up the hill, there is street parking.  Everywhere around here requires a little walking past dark.

Anyone scout conditions? Surfline is calling for 4 - 5' with occasional 6'?

I'm only seeing 3-4 footers with 4 being the prominent.  I swear surfline is always showing bigger than what it really is just to get more surfers out on the water.

Some guys are down from LA and I let them know about the conditions.  We can only do what we can only do.

Fished SK yesterday (Friday) and it was bad, strong south current and annoying shopped weeds. The tide was choppy with some big sets farther out. I soaked the line for 10 minutes before going to the Casino to find similar conditions. Unless the conditions have changed dramatically overnight, I would go to plan B. :'(

Great chatting up with those who showed up and putting a face to some screen names. FISH86R, didn't get a chance to get your real name, hope you found some after the move. The fishing sucked a$$, but the company didn't.

Well, those might have been the worst conditions ever.  The broken up salad that glues to your line coupled with 20 mph southerly current really sucked.

Great meeting up with everyone though.  I think this will be the last Grinner Gathering in a while unless something turns my feelings around.

Grinner Gathering Official Date Announcement

Saturday Night, November 24th, 2018

The "Soup Kitchen" as in years past since it allows many people to fish at once.

No worries if you can't make it or just don't want to hit the SK again.  I'm going to watch the surf conditions as we get close as I might cancel for another day if the surf is too gnarly to fish or the entire kelp forest is washed up on the beach.  We can always Plan B it in Mission Bay for Bats and Leopards if need be, but all of the other dates have been stricken from the list leaving this day open with decent tides and moon phases.

I would love to join sometime. I’ve caught some bigger Leo’s and big rays but I’m still searching for my first grinner. Hopefully I will run into some of you sometime.

Pretty much guaranteed you will. You'll get one soon, especially with spring not too far off. Sharking really takes off then!!!

Yeah I’m up for it. I’m sure I’ll be with him sometime soon. After these swells to the south die down a bit.
