Chasing the bonito
« on: November 09, 2018, 06:10:58 AM »
With the reports of fairly large bones being caught I decided to take a ride on the Spitfire out of MDR yesterday. First time I've been on a day boat in a few years, been focusing on the overnight and 1.5 days instead. The boat left with only 9 anglers on board, I was surprised they went. Caught the jack pot fish on the first cast and landed 8 in total, all caught on the 60g Blue/Pink Colt Sniper. Donated the jack pot to the crew and tipped the cook generously, knew they weren't making any money with only 9 on board. Going to smoke the majority and save the rest for shark bait. Felt good to be on the water, first time since my parents have gone downhill.  My little sister hung with my folks

Nicely done Verne!  Those bones will go a long way and what a nice feeling (at least for the anglers) to get out on the boat with only 9 people!
You can't catch them from your computer chair.

Bones are fun fighting fish with the light gear.

I know you understand what I'm going through Steve, ain't nothing easy about it.  My youngest sister said I've aged 5 years in the last 12 months, like we used to say "War's Hell".  Then again, maybe I am just getting old   ;D
