First Bug Trip On The Curmudgeon (1/19-1/20)
« on: January 21, 2019, 06:35:21 AM »
I finally went out bugging on the Curmudgeon after a 2 year absence from hooping.  Steve and I checked the jetties, but the swell was rather big, so we stayed inside where the surge was a bit smaller to make sure we dialed the boat in.

Second pull and first bug comes on board.

It was kind of slow, but there were just enough bugs to keep us around.

Even got some doubles in the hoops.

We made a few moves that proved to be less than successful, but we were still pulling things up.
A bunch of flap jacks.

Conchs

Horn Shark

More bugs

Ended the night with one legal bug.  Not much going on as the grounds were hit hard this year in MB, but now that Shelter Island is open, it might get a little better before the season closes.

My buddy was out the same night and got 109 bugs... with only 4 keepers.

Thanks for reading.
You can't catch them from your computer chair.

Way more fun than hitting the back bay and catching a bunch of fish. That’s for sure.

Hooping is like a box of chocolates....

Seriously, it's cool as you never know what you're gonna pull up. Hauling up the nets is the only part that sucks.
