I've never been either.  Not sure what inhabits the surf out there.  What island are you staying on?
You can't catch them from your computer chair.

Honolulu... I know there's gonna be all kinds crazy sharks and I have someone who's gonna take me to some spots.. I'm just wondering about lures and that sort of thing.. Maybe land some trevally or a big cuda or something..

For lures, imo your safest bet is gona be a 1oz kastmaster in silver or gold. Good search bait and you can cast it a mile. It covers just about any baitfish out there that i can think of although they got some funky colored ones there. Maybe do a search of the type of baitfish there and match the hatch.

Id still bring other irons, swimbaits and poppers.

If you know exactly where ur staying go on google earth beforehand and look for structure.

Take some pics

Have fun man

Check out shaka fishing on YouTube. The guy is from Hawaii and does mostly fishing from shore, whipping and dunking.
