Hawaiian soup
« on: April 30, 2019, 10:54:55 AM »
Kaipo and I hit the sand with yellowtail and bonito for bait. Soaked from 7pm -1am.
Very little salad, large swell and uphill current made high tide tough to fish. Low tide was the ticket. I missed a good hit around 10:30 or 11 and it made us stay longer. Hooked up soon after and went slack after a short, very hard pull. Leader came back with no hook. Thought my crimp slipped but the crimp wasn’t there and the ones I’ve seen that slipped the crimp stays on one side.

I was sad but luckily brought more leaders this time.

Kaipo was up next and he had a real fish on this time. Fought it for about 10 mins, maybe a little more and landed a big soupfin. She taped at 200cm (78.75”). Got measurements and pics and sent her on her way. She was real calm on the sand but quickly swam off when i got her in the wash.

Packed up at 1am and left them biting.

Damn! That's only the second 78" soupie I've seen/heard from the beach! Congrats Kaipo! That's a beast!
Well done guys. It's so weird the soupies moved in so thick. Usually those counts start to decrease while the sevengills increase. What a weird year.
Maybe May will be as epic as April has been. Historically it all starts slowing down in June.
Bravo guys!
You can't catch them from your computer chair.

I had to take a second look at the picture. At first glance I thought it was the TAX man!
