Sea snake

Was out on my buddies boat last night fishin calicos and sand bass.

We spotted a sea snake swimming on the surface about 5 ft from the boat.

It was about 2 feet long and thin.

I googled "sea snake california" and saw many articles just like this one from last year

I believe it was one of these venomous yellow bellued sea snakes. Just dont see what else it could be.

Should i report it to DFW?

I would at least send them a message that you spotted one in case they have any ongoing research on the critters.  They've been showing up more and more every year.

Most sea snake bites accrue on or between the fingers because that’s the only place they can get their mouths around and most people freak out and swat at them when they “come at them” when coming up for air.

I used to pick up the white and black ones in Okinawa just fine. Sometimes they’d get caught In the higher tide pools and if not relocated the birds would get them.

Guess I'll be bring a machete on the kayak from now on.
