Surf Submarines – Giant Sea Bass – So everyone that fishes in the ocean realizes that you never know what you are going to catch. The ocean is filled with so many creatures, that it is exciting to see what you might possibly catch every time out. Most of the time, it is exactly the short list of fish that you expect to catch, but every once in a while you are totally surprised!
Night fishing is even more exciting when something big shows up at the end of your line. Everything is dark and all you have is a beam of light from your head lamp shining into the water waiting to get a glimpse of what might be attached to the hook… Well, this night we were looking for and expecting sharks, but got one of those surprises. I wasn’t sure what I was fighting, but I expected it to be a bigger than usual shark species. It turned out I was wrong and had a big Giant Sea Bass slip up in the waves. They are a protected species, so it stayed in the water for a quick pick as I was getting the hook out and it swam off like you would see a largemouth bass swimming off after the release in your local lake. We still got our sharks, but that was one of those surprises that happens once in a decade for some and once in a lifetime for others!
