Had an invite from a friend to chase tuna on his 21 foot Parker.

Family trip, his wife and three kids ages 12, 10 and 7 came along. Together with all the gear they bring for comfort makes for a crowded boat.

The kids are in a community theater production and arrive home at midnight, so we fished gentlemen's hours and left the slip at 830. Jon and I arrived early to fuel and get bait. No line at the barge and they popped a new tank as we arrived. Mixed size mini macks, a few dines and 3 big macks that I was drooling over for shark bait.

Headed out from the bay and made it about 3 miles before we saw terns diving on breaking fish. Everywhere.

Run and gun with surface iron. No go, so we decided to try the long soak. Spent an hour with baits out. Groups of fish and singles jumping all around, from 300 yards or more to within 10 feet of the boat. Some football size, some that looked to be in the 30-40 pound range. No biters.

We decided to move along and look for paddy fish. Put the trollers out and started looking. Not a kelp in sight.

Changed the jigs up several times. Different sizes, and colors of feathers. Cedar plugs, Halcos, Rapalas. Nothing.

Came upon another area of bird schools. Same story. Soaked baits for another hour. Started a chunk line with the dead or near dead dines. I even pinned on one of the huge 16" mackerel to see if they would go for it. Surface iron, yoyo iron, still no go.

Paula made some kick ass sandwiches while we soaked baits.

Put the trollers back in and made a big loop on the way back to the barn. Spotted a couple paddies with no one home.

Got back to the slip, unpacked and put the leftover baits into the dockside bait motel Jon just acquired. Hope it works out and we have bait at the slip for next time.

Jon and I washed down the boat, Paula popped over to the bar and brought us c*cktails, while the kids made sandwiches from the rest of the fixings.

We finished our chores, Paula took the kids home, Jon and I hit the bar for a couple beers, and headed back to his place.

When we arrived, Paula was just pulling pizzas out of the oven.

A frustrating day on the water, but a great day spent with good friends. Can't ask for much more.

 Except maybe a couple fish.

It looks for the work c*ck and corrects it no matter where in the word it is apparently.  lol

Well, it was a hell of a try anyway.  You guys have done quite well last year, but the season is only starting this year!
