Vern, your situation with your Dad got me to thinking last night. My Mom passed away earlier this year after a long battle with dementia and heart issues. Thankfully she was able to stay in her house with help from a caretaker. Being in her house was a huge benefit, she knew where she was and was comfortable in familiar surroundings. It was difficult being in Phoenix and her in California, but I called and visited when I could.
You are a saint for taking care of your Dad and making sure he is comfortable. Much like he and your Mom raised you as a child you are now taking care of him on the flip side of life. No one knows the commitment and patience it takes to deal with someone with dementia unless they have had to deal with it themselves.
There is a place in Heaven reserved for you, I hope to see you there someday and we can fish together.
