Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / OK night at the MB Corral ... (12/19/14)
« on: December 22, 2014, 07:49:41 PM »
Ditched work early as the tides looked good for an MB Bat session. -.5 to a 4.5 from 3p to 8p. The winds were pretty light too with 5-8mph early, then pretty calm for the evening.

Picked up Paul and hit the Bat Fight spot around 4. Set up with squid / fresh caught macs and didn't take 5 minutes to MISS two nice hit-n-runs. Re-bait, cast out, then my Mac goes screaming, only to go slack as I reach the rod. Bummed! But pretty stoked for the instant action.  :o

At this point an angler from down the beach walks over to check out what we were fishing for, baits, etc. He was watching us race back and forth and could hear the clickers rip. Talked story for about 10 minutes when the mac goes off again. Run down, give a TOM hook set, and I'm on. Could feel the tail thumps and knew it was a good LEO. Few nice runs back an forth and tell Paul "Hey, this is a Leo". He and the other gentleman gave me a "yeah, right" ... Get the head turned to shore and start my slow walk backwards to beach. I finally get it to water's edge (expecting Steve to be there for the assist - OH Wait) and look over at Paul. He's still chatting away then **SNAP**  >:( >:( ... I glare back over at him and he says "What? You wanted me to grab that?" ... LOL (fugger)  ???  Good deckies are under appreciated  ;)

Was a nice 4-5ft kitty. Awe well.

As I'm retying my squid gets hit with a solid run. BAT !!! YES!!! Great fight too with air, runs, and a good hunker down for 5 minutes. Finally get her up and Paul helps with this one. Didn't measure but would guesstimate 45"

As we snap a pic Paul's rod then volleys for a bat of his own.
Gave him a few good rips then realized he was knotted up mid-spool. Gave a shout "oh crap" and buttoned down. Fortunately it wasn't too big and he muscled it to shore.

The bite shut down for a good half hour  ... then my parade of smaller critters starts.

First up a SNGF
Gotta give it the Hendrix

Then a Butter ...

Greedy SBB - took on a large mac head ...

We hit another lull from 6:45 to 7:15 and agreed "let's go in 15min at 7:30". Sure enough, right at 7:30 on the button, one of Paul's rods starts to sing.
Has a good fight with a medium sized Leo and beach it.  As he's removing the hook for a picture, his 2nd rod goes off. He fricken doubles up at the buzzer!!!
This time another small Bat, but worth the double photo!

Super fun night with multi-species success. Can't wait to get out again over the Holidays!!

Tight Lines everyone, and thanks for reading!

Aloha~

Food & Recipe / Limoncello :-)
« on: December 04, 2014, 02:55:31 PM »
So, those who know me know that I like my ... uh ... beverages.  :)

My neighbors Lemon tree has been kicking out plump ones so decided to take a grocery bag over and grab a few dozen.

Lemon moraine Pie? Heck no ... Limoncello !!

Let the peels soak in canning jars for 3 weeks and was ready to add the (headache) portion of the mix - sugar. Yeah yeah yeah ... kind of a chick drink. But makes for a great holiday gift to my fellow drinkers.

Finished bottled product heading for the freezer.

Let the wifey have a try.

"Bleh, too STRONG"

 :) Perfect  :)

Happy Holidays!

Had a window of opportunity on Sunday morning and the boys chimed in they'd like to tag along before heading out to the surf.
I caught 5 bass on Saturday, so figured we'd go back to the same basic area (Fluc-u-asians & Tecolote).

Started off at the point and made our way towards the Hilton. I hooked up first, tiny bugger, and that would be my only fish of the day. :-(

Cam gets a bite and scores his first MB bass ... a decent 12"er.

Then backs it up with the twin to my catch

Missed a few more short bites and decided it was time to move. Figure the EDC had done its job pounding out the area and giving lock-jaw-a-plenty.

Saw two familiar anglers on the bay side and walked over to say Hello. Phong and Nicky doing their thing, but also reported slow fishing. I think the wind from the south and pre-storm-like conditions put the bite off.

We ventured over to tecolote shore and lost a few more fish before Alika put his on the board. Another nice 12" guy which put up a decent fight.

That was it for the morning and called it quits at 9:30. Was fun to get out, just wish conditions were more productive for the NewBs. There's always next time  ;) :)

Aloha

Freshwater Shore Fishing Reports / Halloween Session
« on: November 01, 2014, 10:11:14 AM »
Had Friday off from work so the plan was to wake up early and look for grinners.

Woke up late - scratch plan A.

It was light out, but the golf course next to our home is closed / under construction. Grabbed my bass rod with spook jr. and hit the pond on my way for coffee. No ninja session, light out.

Only took a a few minutes for the first blow up *miss* .. "DAMN". Few more casts and missed another pop.

Third strike a charm with this little guy.  Fun 10 minute detour!

Shortly after the grounds crew rolled by and gave me the boot. Continued on my way for coffee.

Went down to MB after that, South Shores then KDP, couldn't scratch a bite for bass or corvina. Ah well.

Happy Halloween weekend!

My boy Alika (WheresMySoda) has been doing the golf course ninja thing pretty regularly now for the past several weeks. I've set him up with cheap gear, just in case he gets busted, and he's been putting it to work. One, two, three fish here and there - most are the 1-2 lb largemouth clones. But every now and then he picks up a decent fight. It's amazing how many bodies of water we're finding as we branch out. Even little creaks are producing.

Here's a few of his latest:

And this one was his trophy. A nice one.
We could only estimate the weight and we're saying around 6-7 lbs. Could have been more. He's 6 ft and the arms are not extended at all. That fish is right next to him - and could almost fit his head in that thing  :)
Has my PB beat by a long shot!!

Having fun with my boy while I can.

Hope it lasts forever.
