Full Moon....
Big Tides....
Not my favorite times to get out and fish the surf, but Squatch and I gave it a go to hunt grinners anyway.
Very few miscellaneous bites, but looked to be bass from the marks they were leaving on the baits. Tide just hit the top of the tide when I cast out a smallish mack head and just got the rod in the holder when the rod starts jerking in a typical shark fashion!
It was a fiery fight and knew it was a soupfin immediately, but it took me for a ride and I even fell on the beach as I stepped in a kids hole that was dug up on the beach apparently earlier in the day. I kept it on the line and it went ripping way down the beach just to beach himself.
Squatch had a bit of a tough time trying to slide him up the beach as this guy was all piss and vinegar. After a quick measurement of 67" and a few photos, he swam back like nothing ever happened.
That is only my 3rd male soupfin I ever got down here (Might be more but my memory is failing me right now). In any case, it's not a common catch in San Diego waters. Almost all have been females, so it was a welcome sight.
What is also a welcome sight, Is me tying Squatch for the surf shark leaderboard with 19 since PSouls inception!
Neither one of us got anything resembling a good bite, so we shut it down and packed up. All in all, another fine evening in the suds!
